Steele POV

"Alpha" The sound of my beta's voice snaps me out of my trance.

"Yes, come in." I say rising out of my chair as he opens the door. "To what do I owe the pleasure, Johnny?"

"I've just received message from the little town by the woods." Johnny says switching his posture uncomfortably. I can sense he's tense and very nervous about something.

"What's going on?" I say with a look as stern as my voice.

"Elder Rose has sensed that a group of rogues are drawing near. She fears for the village and asks that we send a small fraction of our pack for protection."

" Why doesn't see preform a protection ritual around the village then?" I ask walking around to the front of my desk.

" Her powers aren't at their fullest capacity anymore. She's growing weaker as the days pass. She could build one but she wouldn't be able to hold it up for long. It's not the village as a whole that she's worried about either." Johnny says straightening his posture.

"What do you mean? What is she protec-,"

"Sir, it's a who. Your question should be WHO is she protecting. "

" Then who is so important that she asked for our help?" I say starting to pace. Rose hasn't asked for our help in years. Why does she ask now? Who is she trying to protect?

" I couldn't much info out of her but all I know is that this girl she is trying to protect means the world to her. I feel as we should help her, Alpha" Johnny says with a sincere look in his eyes. Who is Rose protecting? Who is she so afraid to lose? I release a low sigh.

"I'll head over to the village tonight and talk to Rose face to face. Whatever is going on needs to be handled in person. I'll move faster alone so keep watch on the pack. I will most likely be back tomorrow morning." Johnny simply nods and shows himself out. I hear his footsteps echo down the hallway. I look down at the clock on my desk and notice it's 11 'o' clock. If leave now I should be able to make it to the lake by one. I take a deep sigh and run my hands through my hair.

"Rose, what is going on?" I say to the oblivion standing before me. Of course there was no response so I took my leave and headed to the old village.

**(little time skip brought by writers block 😉)**

I forgot how great it feels to have the wind flowing through my fur.

"YEAH YOU JACKASS! LET ME OUT MORE OFTEN!" my wolf, Zander, was yelling with joy.

"I'm sorry. We'll try to come out more often." I reply calmly with a chuckle.

"Promise?" I could imagine he probably has his begging face on.

"Yes, I promise Zander." He just simply let's out a yip for joy and keeps enjoying the run. It does feel great. We need to do it more often. When we have our mate it'll be even better. Zander starts to slow his stride.

"What's wrong?" I ask Zander.

"Steele...I smell a-" Zander wasn't capable of finishing his sentence as a bullet came into contact with our back leg. The pain is unbearable. I feel the blood gushing out. But before I could say anything to Zander, he's already off running as best as he can.

"We have 30 mins to the lake. I'll try and sprint as best as I can but once we get to the lake, you'll have to take full control mentally but it's best if we stay in my form." Zander says with pain laced in his voice.

"Are you sure? I can take over now." I say trying to convince him other wise.

"No. Just follow my plan" Zander says ending any argument. I simply relax and trust him. That's the only thing I can do at the moment.

After a painful period of time, we finally reach the lake. I suddenly feel Zander perk up.

"STEELE! MATE! SHE'S HERE! WE FINALLY FOUND HER!" Zander is freaking out.

"Where?"

"Look across the lake." We look across the lake and...holy shit. She's beautiful. The moonlight just adds to her beauty. Thankfully because of my night vision, I can see every bit of her. Every bit of pain faded away. I forgot about everything but her. I sat and looked at her for a little longer than I see her look at me. She has two different eye colors. She is truly a goddess. I look into her eyes and see worry lace through them. She then starts walking towards me. Oh my god, she's walking towards me. She is coming over to ME! We still held eye contact though. I never wanted to stop looking in her eyes. It's like I was stuck.

"Hey bud. I'm not here to hurt you. I just want to help." Her voice is like honey. So sweet and smooth. I could listen to it all day. After a few more steps and a few more soft words...she was only ten feet away. TEN FEET AWAY FROM ME!

"Will you please let me help you?" She says closing the gap between us a little more. Now...she was only...a foot away. Zander is in the back of my mind freaking out but somehow, we remained still. She lifted her hand a little.

"I'm not going to hurt you. I'll take you home and we'll fix up your leg. How does that sound?" she says looking me deep into my eyes. I close my eyes and move my snout into her hand. As I touched her hand I felt a electric wave rush through me. This really is my mate. I found her. She stands up and starts walking. I go to move my leg and a bolt of pain rushes through my body. I was so caught up in my mate being right in front of me that I forgot about the bullet in my leg. Great. Well, I have my mate and that's all I need. Now and forever. So I'll follow her to the ends of the world.
