Neighbours

No! I shouted but they didn’t let go. They continued to carry me. They told me that it was for my safety and that they were coming. What was coming? And why were they in fear for their lives. The beast is near he said sounding of an ancient time. “Let me go!” I shouted.

I awoke only to find myself in my chemistry lab with eyes all staring at me. “Are you okay Jake?” asked Mr. Westwood. “Yeah,” I answered “I had a weird dream that’s all.” He continued his lesson, while I stared into space thinking about my dream. It seemed too real to try and forget about it, I remembered the sound the beast made it was a low growl as it approached the men in black cloaks. It came to the end of chemistry class and I rushed down the hall to go to the changing room, when I bumped into Ray my best friend from the fifth grade.

“Hey dude what’s up,” he said. “I’m good we have football practice today, you ready to kick James ass?” I said taking out my football gear out of my gym bag.

“Yeah I’m going to crush him,” he said enthusiastically. “I can’t wait to see you try and fail,” James said joining our conversion. “Whatever lets leave all the talking for the field,” replied Ray.

We quickly changed and went on the field to start the game. “No football match today,” said Coach Walters. He was near tears as he spoke; he gripped his phone tightly as he moved it away from his ears. He had a sad but blank look on his face and we could all tell that something was wrong. “What’s wrong coach?” Ray asked rubbing his head. “No practice for the rest of the week,” said Coach Walters ignoring his question. He walked away and left us standing in the middle of the field.

“What’s his problem?” James asked. “I over heard him on the phone, his wife died last night,” replied Chuck. “What do you men his wife died last night,” the rest of us asked confused. “Well I heard his wife spent the weekend over her mother’s house, she was going home last night when she went missing so he notified the police and they found her body.” “So where did they find her?” asked Ray. “They found her in the forest three miles away from here torn apart to pieces,” Chuck continued “The worst part is she couldn’t be identified when they found her,” he finished. “This is the fourth murder since this week,” I said. “People die everyday its life, then we get over it,” James said. Everyone looked at him disgusted; he was so insensitive and horrible. “Why are you staring at me like that?” he asked. “You’re so insensitive,” Ray answered. “Whatever dude,” he said and walked away.

On my way home I kept on remembering the conversation earlier, I know people die everyday but this was unusual. A serial killer could be on the loose, but it could also be an animal attack since her body was torn to pieces. Yet still I kept hearing the panicked voices in my head from my dream earlier. I remembered their god-like appearances and their blood-red eyes. I remembered the fear and their panicked voices the most, worst of all I remembered the low growl coming towards us through the thick black forest.

As I wondered off into my dream, I saw two big red eyes in front of my van. I stopped the van to investigate what I just saw. Nothing was there I must be hallucinating I thought to myself, I went back in the van and drove straight home.

Jake wake up! You’re such a lazy child!! Mom shouted.

“It’s a Saturday,” I muttered to myself. I showered, brushed my teeth, washed my face and brushed my hair. “Oh! I almost forgot to tell you, I have great black wavy hair.  Anyways, I went downstairs only to see my mom inviting strangers into our house.

“This is my son Jake,” she told all three of them.

“Hey,” I said and waved at them.

“It’s nice to officially meet you Jake,” said the tall, blond hair woman in an Italian accent, she looked about twenty-five. “You’re mom talks a lot about you”, she added.
