He had skin that had a hint of gold, with brown eyes and dark hair. There was something about asians that Marilyn never understood of; how can their skin appear to look flawless? After a while, the man made his way towards Marilyn with a worried expression drawn on his face as he noticed the bandaged knee she had.

"I hope you're fine, I'm so sorry about-"

"It's fine, I owe you a thank you. You saved my life," Marilyn smiled. Now, something about Marilyn is that her smile could bring happiness even to the most grumpiest person alive. She brought the radiation of happiness and warmth wherever she went.

The man's lip etched into a soft smile and took a seat beside Marilyn before he replanted his focus back onto Marilyn's knee.

"Look if you ever need a lawyer-" the man puts his hand into his pocket and pulled out a business card with his name and number printed on it.

"You know who to call," he smiled and then nodded, before he walked away.

Marilyn sat on the smal sized bed that was placed in the corner of her bedroom.  Her mind rushed through the thought of what had happened earlier in the afternoon. From being stood up by her own best friend to meeting a stranger who she's never seen around town before, it was indeed an eventful day. She picked out the busines card from inside of her purse and looked at it.

"Son's Law Firm," Marilyn read out in a soft voice before a small knock on her door was heard, and then John appeared with a bouqet of sunfowers in his hands. He had a weak smile as he noticed the slight frustration Marilyn had in her eyes.

"I was about to sleep," Marilyn said with a rather harsh tone and pulled the covers above her as she turned to face the wall, avoiding any eye contact with John.

"Marilyn... Come on," John heaved out a sigh before he took a seat beside her, placing the bouqet on her bed side table.

"Your father told me about what happened and you weren't exactly replying to any messages or answer any of my calls," John explained.

There was silence in the atmosphere for a while.

"I figured you might be to busy to talk to me," Marilyn answered.

Again, silence.

"Look, I'll... make it up to you," he says. Marilyn remained silent, she was not one who'd easily forgive. Until, John started singing.

"There was once a beautiful girl, Marilyn. She was friends with a boy named Hamlin. She was pretty and nice but cold as an ice, but one thing she caught was the little boy's eyes, they laughed and they played they cried and they smiled, but they became best friends till the end of the time."

John's  voice was smooth and clear and quiet yet powerful. Soothing, in a way. You don't really call a guy's voice beautiful, but his was. It was the promise of tomorrow. It was beautiful, and she wished that he would never stop. It was the song they've created when they were younger, the song Marilyn held close to her.

Her frown slowly turned into a smile before she turned to face John, who's face filled with remourse.

"I guess that's an apology I'm willing to take," she giggled.

"Excited to start school tomorrow?" John raised both of his eyebrows.

"Yes... And no. I wish you could be there," Marilyn shrugged her shoulders.

"You know I could never take Law. I'm more into Accounting anyway."

"I know but it would've been great if-"

"What's this?" John picked up the business card from the floor.

"Son's Law Firm, huh? I've heard a thing or two about  the guy," John interrupted.

"You have? Uh... What about him?"

"The firm opened years ago by his grandfather and now it's passed on to him. I've seen him around, he's even came to the cafe before. Korean, really friendly but is always in a rush to get to work, probably a workaholic-"

"So he is new in town, isn't he?" Marilyn was getting even more curious about the man who have saved her life.

"Yeah, two houses down Sheriff Joe's. I think he moved in with his wife, or girl friend," John's answer wasn't what Marilyn wanted to hear. She knew nothing about this guy but she could feel her heart shattering from the information John had said. He was out of her league. But, what did she care anyway? It wasn't like she was interested in him.

"I reckoned he was married or at least had a girlfriend," Marilyn said, hoping that she'd feel better from pretending that it didn't affect her a single bit.

"I guess. But why do you have his card anyway?" John asked.

"He... He helped me earlier during the accident. As a matter of fact, he saved my life," Marilyn smiled at the thought of him.

John raised an eyebrow as he eyed how Marilyn was clearly thinking about the man.

"Right. Well, if you hadn't heard me say earlier, I don't think he's available. Just a heads up," John chuckled in sarcasm as he stood up to adjust his clothes.

"I just said he saved me, I didn't say I wanted to sleep with him," Marilyn answered, clearly annoyed by how John was acting.

"I know, I was just saying. Just maybe in case you think he's  a great guy."

"And who are you to say that? You know nothing about him."

"And you think you do?"

Words left me. Marilyn stared into those bright blue eyes burning with anger, and her heart fell silent. "Answer me!" he roared. But she couldn't will her lips to move.

"John, it's time you go home," father entered the room with a disappointed face. John heaved out a sigh and walked towards the door.

"I'm sorry Mr. Smith," John uttered before leaving.

"Thanks dad," Marilyn gave a weak smile as her father took a seat beside her.

"He'll be fine, now you should go to sleep. Tomorrow's a big day after all," father smiled.

His eyes crinkled as he smiled and up close, Marilyn could see that her father has come to age. She's doing everything she is now, for him, so that he can finally rest and retire comfortably. He.. had done so much for her. Too much.
