🐱Adrian's POV🐱

I shut my final luggage bag and handed it to the servant. He took it downstairs and placed it with the rest of the things I had packed. I was finally finished packing for the summer, and I was wearing the the clothes to disguise for my neko body. Plagg flew over next to my shoulder and looked after the servant skeptical.
"I don't get why you humans pack so much stuff" he said as if he were exasperated with the human race in and of itself. "All you need is cheese to be happy in life." I rolled my eyes and chuckled. That was plagg for you. Sometimes I think cheese is all he cares about.
"Speaking of cheese. I'm hungry." he looks at me expectantly. I swear he's always hungry.
"There's some camembert waiting for you in my pocket." I told him. He licked his lips and dove headfirst into my breast pocket. Smiling, I shook my head knowing he would never change.
Just then, natalie came in and told me it was time to go.
"Don't keep your father waiting. The carriage is waiting outside for you." she left before I could respond. I looked around at my chambers knowing the next time I would see it would be the day of my wedding. I sighed before closing the door and heading down the grand stairs of the palace to the front gates where the carriage was waiting.
My father and my brother were already inside and was waiting. I stepped in and took my seat across from them. The coachman urged the horses forward and we began the long journey through medieval France. I looked at the sky and calculated that we would probably arrive by nightfall if we hurried. That was good. The last thing I want is to get caught with night bandits again. But if that happens, the guards traveling with us will take care of them.
My skin crawls with excitement. I hardly ever get to leave the castle and see the city. I look around at all the upperclassmen and commoners alike. They all stare at us as we travel, now that I am used to. I smile at a small girl as we pass and she squeals with delight as she runs back to her mother. I look at my brother and smile.
"Isn't it great to be out of the castle again?" He shrugs and goes back to his sketching. My brother is as passionate about drawing and art as my kwami is about cheese. I sigh as I know I'm probably not going to get much conversation out of him and go back to gazing out at the scenery.
Several hours later, we arrive at the castle. It is not as magnificent as the one in paris, but it is breathtaking nonetheless. I step out and stretch my sore muscles. The team of servants we brought along starts taking our luggage inside and delivering them to where they belong. My brother goes straight down to the water to draw the breathtaking sealine. My father goes up to his study. Soon enough I'm left alone at the gates not sure what to do first. Plagg flies out of my pocket and hovers in front of my. He stretches and yawns.
"Come on." he says gesturing me to follow him.
"Where are we going?" I ask him as we start walking.
"To your mother's old chambers of course." he says like it's obvious. "I sense tikki in there and I haven't seen her since last year." I smile at his enthusiasm. Tikki was the only other kwami that plagg ever really considered a close friend and I'm happy the two will be able to hang out this summer. I gladly follow him to my mother's old chambers. I both despite and love being there. It brings back bittersweet memories.
My hand is on the latch to open it when I hear not one, but two voices coming from inside. My insides turn to ice. Had someone managed to sneak inside the castle? I consider calling the guards but I want to try to see if it's an actual threat before I do. Just in case, I unsheath my sword and hold it behind my back, ready to defend myself if need be. The voices are muffled so I can't understand what is being said. Taking a deep breath I throw the door open and step in. my eyes don't believe what they see. A mermaid. There is a mermaid in the castle, sitting on my mother's bed, with tikki in her hands, staring back at me with utter terror.

🐞Marinette's POV🐞

I stared at the human eyes wide with fear. He stared back with what looked like shock. There was a small black thing floating next to him but I paid that no mind. I was paralyzed under his gaze, and he seemed paralized under mine. His clothes told me enough to know that he was rich. He must be the real owner of the castle. His hair was blonde like sunlight and his eyes green like the deepest kelp forest. As far as humans go, this one was definitely one of the more attractive I had met. Not to say that I had ever met a human face to face before. I hadn't, and I was terrified.
His hand slipped and his sword dropped to the floor with a loud clatter. That's what snapped me out of it. I scrambled wildly and fell off the bed painfully on my back, my tail still propped up on the side. He followed my line of vision and saw where I was headed. As I tried to get back to the water, he rushed to get in front of it and thus block my means of escape, however, the wet floor caused him to slip and fall on his stomach. He cried out to me to me.
"Stop! Wait!" I didn't listen. I had to get out of there before he tried to sell me as fish meat or worse kill me on the spot for daring to take residence in what I had to assume was his castle. I dove into the water and just before I swam away I turned around and said
"I'm sorry tikki! Don't worry I'll come back for you! I promise." I could hear her calling my name as I swam down into the tunnel and back out into the ocean. As I swam off, I couldn't help but look back.
I arrived at my best friend alya's cavern panting my gills off. She swam through the seaweed curtain, took one look at the state I was in, and pulled me inside and set me on her anemone bed.
"What happened? Shark attack? Pirates? Hurricane headed this way!?" she started listing off the different worst-case-scenarios that came to her mind. Frankly, I couldn't blame her. I looked like a nervous wreck. I tried to stutter out an explanation but it just came out as a squeaking noise. So alya spent the next 10 minutes getting me calm enough to tell her what happened.
"What is it girl? I'm here for you. Tell me what's going on." I grimaced before facing her. She gave me a reassuring nod and I sighed
"Alya, I-I met a human."
