"Thank god that's over" I thought to myself as I walked out of the daycare that I had been working at all summer long. It was the only place that was hiring close to my house so i took it. Not that I dont like kids, just I would rather be lounging by the beach and tanning during the summer. But oh well, I needed the money for the car I was saving up for.
I quickened my pace as I saw a group of the most popular girls in my school up ahead. They were in grade 12 just like me but they somehow snagged boyfriends in college. I hung my head low and made sure not to make any eye contact with them. But of course, Ashley, the leader of their group, made a comment.
"Hey fatass, how's it going?" She called out. The rest of her group snickered as I ignored their dumb insult, walking away faster.
I saw a Starbucks up ahead so I decided to make a detour considering I was in for a much needed caffeine boost.
As I entered the coffee shop, the delicious aroma of coffee instantly filled my nose. I walked up to the counter and ordered my regular, a large medium house blend, with two creams.
As I waited for my order to be finished, I couldn't help but notice a guy sitting in a table at the back with sunglasses on looking in my direction. I couldn't tell if he was looking at me because of the shades but before I could finish my thought, my coffee came.
I took the warm drink between my hands and headed to go outside. But before I could get to the door, somebody slammed into my body resulting in my coffee cup to fly out of my hands and onto the ground, spilling my drink everywhere.
I looked up to see who had made me drop my drink when I realized it was the guy who I thought had been staring at me in the back of the shop. I was about to ask what his problem was but I was interrupted.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going! Let me buy you a new coffee. Oh my gosh, I feel so bad." He stammered out, all the while staring down at me through his sunglasses.
I thought I recognized his voice but I quickly pushed that thought away.
"It's okay, really. You don't need to buy me a new coffee. It was a honest mistake." I replied.
But clearly this guy wasn't listening, because he immediately asked me what drink I wanted. I knew I wouldn't win so I told him and he went off to get it. I sat down on the nearest chair and waited for the guy to come back.
As he ordered our drinks, I couldn't help but stare at him. The way his dark brown curls fell slightly above his sunglasses and his husky voice was very attractive. But guys like that were always jerks so I turned my head to face the window showing the busy street outside.
In part of the window, my reflection stared back at me. My
dark brown hair was pulled into a messy bun atop my head and my dark green eyes were framed by dark, full lashes and my skin was tan from all the time spent outside in the playground area of the daycare.
"I wish I could look like those girls out of a magazine; with blonde hair, blue eyes super skinny." I thought to myself as I stared at my reflecting image.
My thoughts were interrupted by the mystery guy sliding my coffee in front of me. I looked up in surprise and saw he had a cheeky smile on his face revealing perfectly straight teeth.
"What?" I questioned, thinking he was making fun of me.
"Oh nothing, just you're pretty cute when you're thinking hard" He smirked.
I rolled my eyes at his remark, knowing he couldn't be serious.
"Do you mind if i sit down?" He asked, still with that damn cheeky smile on his face.
"Uhmm, well I need to get going. Sorry." I hastily replied, whilst getting up and walking to the exit.
"Wait! I didn't get your name gorgeous!" He said with a flirty glint in his eyes.
I rolled my eyes, "The names Katelyn" I replied before stepping out of the door and heading home.
