In an interview with ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe, Espanto said he will not be going back to Calgary, Alberta in Canada, where their family used to live, to work in showbiz full-time here in his native country. However, his parents will be going back to Canada temporarily for work.
"Hindi na po [ako babalik sa Canada] kasi po marami din pong mga offers pagkatapos ng finals [ng The Voice Kids]. Sabi po ng mga magulang ko, sila na lang po ang uuwi for the meanwhile para makabalik sa trabaho," he said.
Espanto said most of his relatives are here in the Philippines and they will be the ones looking after him while his parents are away.
Although Espanto did not clinch the "The Voice Kids" title, the 13-year-old singer said he is happy because of the overwhelming support he has been receiving on social media.
The hashtags "Darren Don't Leave the Philippines" and "Manalo Matalo Darren Pa Rin Kami" even trended on Twitter until Monday afternoon, with the young singer's fans saying they still consider him the winner.
"I feel great. Mabuti naman po ako. I'm very blessed to have [my supporters]. I thank all the people who supported me and I will forever treasure them. I feel very very happy po kasi kahit hindi po ako yung nanalo, parang nanalo na din po ako," he said.
