"So I was thinking first we'd start with the microorganisms chapter and then we- Hey! Are you even listening to me?""Hmm? Yes, I am. It just takes me a while to process so much stupid at once."
Filling with rage at Taehyung's sassy remark, I leaned forward and flicked his forehead, emitting a low groan from his mouth. It had been 2 hours of a torturous study session with him, where I was memorizing nearly everything and Taehyung was too busy wondering if women ever have to take a DNA test to know if the kid is theirs.
Honestly, his mind doesn't even surprise me anymore. Although, it is quite unique and creative to think about stuff people normally don't, I was pissed because he wasn't being serious and also occasionally played Sims on his phone. In what mind did Mina say Taehyung's a good tutor?
True to his word, Taehyung arrived extra early with two hot chocolates sitting on the desk of the library we studied at. Somewhat after barely half an hour of studying, he started asking those type of questions where you just wanna bang your head against the wall.
My eyes fell on his messy handwriting and my head began to pound at all the short terms he had used, like they were merely comprehensible.
"Fix this," I spoke, side-eyeing his neon orange flashcard.
"It's just a random point, I don't care about grammar right now."
"There is no excuse for bad grammar, Taehyung." I replied, taking the pen from his hand and writing an easily deciphered sentence.
Taehyung rolled his eyes, snatching the flashcard away from me and analyzed it. Everything was going smoothly till his phone beeped, indicating that he had a text message. He immediately reached forward for it as I saw a huge smile spread across his face when he typed.
"Who is it?" I asked, before I could stop myself.
"Mina. She says she just got done with studying and she's tired as heck," He paused, eyes glinting as he let out a giggle, "To be honest, I am too."
"But you haven't even completed a topic!"
"Oh my god, she wants to go to Lotte World with me.." He gasped, in complete shock as if he just won a lottery. Whatever.
"Your loss, buddy." I said, resuming studies but no matter how hard I tired, my mind kept picturing Taehyung and Mina having fun in a stupid adventure park hand in hand. But he was to immersed in his phone to even talk.
"This is honestly so exciting." Taehyung squealed, packing up his things and getting ready to leave.
********
"It was honestly so exciting, I had a whole thing planned in my head." I spoke sadly, glancing over at Namjoon's sympathetic face as he listened to me. "I wanted all of us to get together, it's just been so long, y'know?"
"I know, little one. You're the only person keeping this group together." Namjoon smiled, taking a sip of his citron tea. I smiled back at him.
I love talking to Namjoon, he's more like me than anyone I know. I know I can only talk to him explaining a really weird thing and he'd always get what I'm trying to say. Namjoon and I have a similar way of thinking so we can go hours and hours just talking about different topics and never get bored. But I guess that's the point of talking, to get what's in your head out there and share it.
Our operating system is very different to everyone else. We talk philosophy, we want to explore brand new concepts and new blends of old ones. We always listen to the same kind of music; Chet Baker and Frank Sinatra. Our minds still admiring the vibes of 90's and the 80's, living by the words of "be the change you want to see in the world."
"Hey, do you believe dinosaurs went extinct because of a goddamned volcano?" Namjoon interrogated once we were seated on his couch, rewatching Big Hero 6 and we can literally quote each and every dialogue used in this movie, not even kidding. Plus you're never too old to watch animated movies. Ever.
"Sure they did. Look it up." I replied, racking my brain to confirm my answer. That website did say it was either because of an eruption or something, I've gotta be right on this one.
"Dude, you don't look up shit you know. You look up the shit you don't know." He snorted, popping a piece of popcorn in his mouth.
What.
I eyed him suspiciously, wondering what the hell was going on in the genius brain of his. We had a weird type of banter, not only were crude insults taken as hard warming compliments but the unthinkable topics we talked would seem weird to outsiders.
For the next few minutes, I nestled closer to Namjoon and cosied up with a blanket. Our attention was towards the screen and eyes almost turning square as we sat entranced in a sea of popcorn. This was the scene where Tadashi was going to die. I felt my eyes well up with tears as the climax was nearing, I cry every time when I see this movie goddamn it. Droplets of tears fell on my cheeks when I saw Tadashi run into the burning building. And when I looked up at Namjoon, he was crying too.
"People keep saying he's not really gone, as long as we remember him," Namjoon and I spoke along with the character in between sniffles. "But it still hurts."
That was the last straw. We full on broke down in each other's arms, clutching each other tightly as we watched the movie.
This was probably my favorite thing about being in Namjoon's company, that no matter how mature we may seem, we still have a soft heart.
