Ash, Riley, Misty and Pikachu were making their way along an unpaved stone road. "Hey, look at this!" Ash said with a smile before running forward, standing on top of a rock.
Riley followed and stood by her brother's side as she looked at Pewter City in front of them. "Yay, Pewter City," Misty said. Ash sat down on the rock with a sigh, "For a while there, I thought I was gonna be in this forest for the rest of my life."
"Chu," Pikachu said with a sigh as he sat next to Riley. "Pewter City is grey, the colour of stone," A man spoke, making the kids look down below them, seeing a bearded man in a red beanie. "This town has always been famous for stone."
"Huh? What the... who's this old guy?" Ash asked. "Never met him," Misty said. "The name's Flint," the man, Flint said, "And you're sitting on some of my merchandise, young man."
"Oh, sorry," Ash said, leaping up. Riley looked around and noticed a price labels affixed to the displayed rocks, "Uhhh, you mean you sell rocks?"
"They're Pewter City Souvenirs, wanna buy some?" Flint said. "No thanks," Ash said, pointing to himself, "I'm travelling, trying to become a Pokémon Master!"
"Chaa-aah," Pikachu sighed. Riley took the mouse Pokémon in her arms as Flint looked at him. "Well, your Pokémon sure looks worn out," the man noted, standing up, "Why don't you follow me, I'll show you to the Pokémon Center."
Flint turned around and started to walk away. Ash looked at Misty as the girl placed a hand on Riley's shoulder, "See, looks can be deceiving, he's a nice guy."
"Are you sure?" Misty asked. "By the way," Flint started as he walked back toward the kids, "That'll be a 2 dollar charge for resting on my rocks."

The kids were at the Pokémon Center. While Ash handed over Pikachu and his two other Pokémon, Riley and Misty stood in front of a poster. Riley tilted her head, "What is it?" Misty looked at the little girl with a smile, "Pokémon League Regional Championships. Think you can compete?" She teased.
"Yeah!" Riley said with excitement. Misty chuckled, "Maybe one day when you finally get your own Pokémon." Riley pouted before turning to see her brother standing there as he looked at the poster with a grin. "Pokémon League Regional Championships, alright," He said.
Misty looked at him with a smirk, "Ha." Ash looked at her in confusion, "What's the matter?" Misty looked at the poster, "To compete in the Regional Championships, you need to beat 8 trainers from different towns, and get their badges as proof." She smirked, "Can you do that?"
"Of course I can!" Ash said. "Yes, he can!" Riley agreed with excitement as she jumped up and down, much to her brother and Misty's amusement.
There was a laugh from behind Ash, and the three kids looked over to see Flint. "Don't tell me you plan on challenging Brock, The Pewter City Gym Leader?" the man asked.
"Of course I do," Ash said, "As soon as Pikachu and my other Pokémon are better, I'll have no problem! Take me to this Brock's Gym, I'll beat him!" Flint laughed again, "You'll beat him." The man turned around and walked away.

While the kids were waiting for Ash's Pokémon, they decided to go to the cafeteria to have lunch. "Oh, that Flint," Ash said eating, while Misty placed a plate of food in front of Riley before turning to her own plate. "Trying to make a fool out of me. I'll show him."
"Do you really think you can win?" Misty asked as she raised an eyebrow. Riley listened to them quietly, eating. "Gym leaders are different from your everyday Pokémon trainer, they much, much tougher."
