"Hmmmmm, let me see, a brave heart, compassionate, caring"

"Please not slytherin, please not slytherin" I repeated under my breath

"Not slytherin? But some of the best leaders have come from the house of slytherin" the hat murmured. I closed my eyes and wished in my head.

"Gryffindor!" The hat screamed

I felt a sigh of relief as I walked over to the gryffindor table. more and more names were called. after a short wait Severus stepped forward. he looked even more nervous than I had. he stood in front of the stool for a moment before turning to face the crowd and sitting slowly. He stared at me as the hat spoke

"This is easy. Like your mother and father before you, you are a true... slytherin!"

Severus quickly moved his gaze to the floor as if he was disappointed. he got up from his seat and ran down the steps and over to the slytherin table. he sat alone and nobody came to join him. completely fixated on Severus I hadn't noticed James had been called up for sorting. The hat made a quick decision, the minute he sat down the hat went "gryffindor!"

James jumped up and punched the air with joy, then ran down the steps and sat quickly next to me.

"Lily!" he laughed "wow! I can't believe it!" I laughed along with him still staring at Severus's face, he looked like he was about to cry. What had made him like this? I thought he would be happy to be in the same house as his parents were?

After being ushered up the stairs to gryffindor girls dormitory and unpacking my stuff I had a chance to think about why Severus might have been upset, I came to the conclusion that he wanted to be in a different house because of the reputation slytherin had.

After I got my timetable and had settled down I decided to go to the library.
As I walked people shouted things after me, about Severus. Finally I had made it, I was safe in the library. That's when I spotted Severus.
