Ever since you could remember you and your family spent every summer in Ecuador. You weren't from Ecuador, but your parents had visited once and had fallen in love with the country. So they bought a vacation home there. It was a large house; larger than the one you lived in 75% of the year. It had the most amazing view. Your parents had been nice enough to let you have the room with the balcony. That is where you spent most of your time. Most children look forward to summer, but it was on a whole other level for you. You had been around six when you first met Christopher and his family. Your parents had met them during a visit without you or your sister. However, you hadn't started to befriend Chris until you were 8. In fact, you had found him obnoxious the first summer you had spent together. Slowly but surely his charm won you over like it did with most people. Even as children Chris had been popular among the girls. He was always a major flirt. This didn't bother you until you were 9. Chris had stood up for against the girl next door. She had been picking on you since you first visited Ecuador. For some reason that moment had made you fall for your best friend. You would never tell Christopher about your crush. It would just feed his ego.
That made this year your 11th year having a thing for Chris. Unfortunately, Christopher hadn't been in Ecuador for the past two years. He had moved to New Jersey to help his family out with money, and you hadn't heard what he had been up to since. As much as you were excited to go back to Ecuador, you were more excited to see Chris. Whom you hoped would actually be there this time.
The flight to Ecuador was exceptionally long. It truly felt like you would never arrive. When you finally did arrive at your destination it was like clockwork. You got your luggage along with your family and then you went to you house, set your stuff down, and then headed out to Chris' families home. It was tradition to have your first nights meal with them. The whole car ride over you bounced you leg in anticipation. Your older sister noticed and placed a hand on your leg.
"Relax," She said calmly "I'm sure Chris will be here this summer." You and your sister had not always gotten along, but as soon as you turned 18, two years ago, things had changed. Still, you were jealous of her looks. Her dark eyes were beautifully slanted up in a cat like fashion and her black hair always looked perfect. You had more of a cute soft vibe.
"I'm gonna be so upset of he's not" You admitted quietly. Your sister was the only one who knew of your crush on Chris.
About 10 minutes later your car pulled up to Chris' families home. Their mother was waiting outside as usual.
"Hola!" She smiled as she greet the four of you "Ahh mi dulce, you look beautiful" she sighed as she hugged you. My sweet was a nickname you had earned the second summer you spent with them. You and Chris had spent three days helping her clean the house after a large family party. You resisted the urge to ask about Christopher. You were always very careful not to give yourself away around his and your families.
"Mama it's been too long." Not long after she'd given you the affectionate nickname you started called her Mama.
"Go inside the boys are waiting." The boys? as in plural? You thought. Maybe Chris was actually here this time.
Your sister and you entered the house. Voices and laughter filled the halls. In the midst of the noise you were able to hear the only laughed that mattered to you, Christopher's. You would know that laugh anywhere. As you began to listen you realized that there were several voices you had never heard. It wasn't just Chris and his brother. You and your sister exchanged curious glances before rounding the corner and entering the living room.
There on the couch sat five boys. Christopher being one of them. The other four were boys you'd never met.
"Hey uh who are they?" The boy directly to the right of Chris asked. He was slightly more tanned than the rest of the boys and had bleached hair. The other four then ceased their conversations and looked up.
"Mi amor!" Christopher smiled before running up to you and engulfing you in his arms. My love was a nickname you had earned when you were 15. Chris loved how flustered you got whenever he called you that. It had been far far too long since you'd seen Chris. Time seemed to stop as he held you. Inevitably he let go. "guys this is my childhood friend y/n and her sister." He beamed "y/n this is Richard, Joel, Zabdiel and Erik. They're my bandmates."
"Bandmates??" You asked surprised. Chris laughed and slung his arm around your shoulder.
"Si. How could you not know? I thought we were bestfriends?" He pouted. You then remembered last summer hearing his mom say something about a show called La Banda.
"Ahhhh La Banda." You nervously laughed not being 100% sure that was the correct answer.
"Si!" Chris said before messing up your hair and walking back to the couch. Would there ever be a time he didn't see you as a kid you wondered.
The rest of your family entered. Your mom and Christopher's began preparing dinner while the rest of you hung out in the family room. Sadly, Chris didn't pay much attention to you since his bandmates were there and they were fooling around. You leaned over to your sister who looked just as bored as you did.
"He still sees me as a child" You whined
"You grew up together it's going to be hard to overcome that" She added causing you to sigh. You knew she was right. It was going to take something big to get Chris to see you as the woman you are.
