Pain shot through Maxie's legs as he was thrown to the ground by the grunts, him wincing. As his head finally cleared, he heard a booming female voice shouting, presumably at the grunts. "What the hell are you doing?! I told you to let him go, not fuckin' throw him!" the voice growled angrily at the quivering grunts, followed by two sets of boots running out of the room. the voice sighed. After Maxie's mind cleared, and the pain somewhat ceased, Shelly's voice overtook the voice, and the room was more visible. It was bleak, grey with blue stripes lining the walls. Everything felt dreary; there was no furniture, no nothing except for machinery and walls. Surely a man who was sane could not survive in such a bland, empty room for even a month, without the walls burning into their brain and ruin their mind. Maxie hated this place, he hated the look, the feel, the smell. How could Archie live here? If he ever even wanted to consider getting better, surely this was not the place to heal.

"Are you gonna get up, old man? Or do ya like the ground here?" Shelly snickered, holding out her hand. Maxie rolled his eyes, "I despise this place. I can get up on my own, Ms. Shelly." He struggled to get up on his legs, but weakly managed to get onto his feet again. They walked quietly to the main office where Archie was. after what seemed like ages of walking on pained legs, they made it to Archie's room. "Sir, a... guest has come to join us!" Shelly smirked as the doors opened. Archie was sitting behind his desk, his legs kicked up onto his desk. His face was filled with confusion as his eyes locked with Maxie. Maxie felt his face flush as he stared deeply into Archie's oceanic-sapphire eyes. "shelly, you're dismissed." Archie waved his hand. Shelly nodded and walked out, her heels clacking on the tiles of the facility as she walked out.

Archie sighed and leaned back, "Maxie, what are you doing here alone? You could've gotten hurt from my grunts." Maxie felt his legs start to give way, anxiety and pain from being slammed down on the ground combining to make him feel weak. "I came here to stop exactly that," he stammered, "I came alone as to not cause trouble, as well." Archie looked back at Maxie, "what do you think you could do to stop it?" His voice gave a confused tone. Maxie stopped to think. He hadn't really thought about how to talk to Archie, just... about Archie. He felt off. "a peace treaty, perhaps." he answered. Archie eyed the ground and nodded. "I could see that happen." his voice wandered. "by the way, do you wanna sit down? your legs have been shaking since you came in here." He asked. Maxie paused. He realized once again, how much his legs hurt from the fall. his mind was intruded with so many thoughts that he almost fell to the ground, and Archie sat up immediately as Maxie stumbled. "ah, shit..." Maxie paused, catching himself from falling, "yes... please." Archie exhaled sharply as he got up and skidded over a seat to Maxie. Maxie gave a sigh of relief as he sat down, the pain escaping from his legs as he sat down. "thank you, Archie..." He trailed off. Archie nodded, sitting back down. the room was silent for a few moments, Maxie staring at Archie. His face was strangely soft, even in the hard light of the base. his face without war paint covering it, his face seemed oddly... attractive. Maxie aggressively shook off the thought and sighed. "I'm sorry." Maxie mumbled. Archie got up from his seat and sat next to Maxie. Maxie felt his face heat up slightly, and he looked slightly away. "you stare into my face quite often." Archie smirked, "Are you just spacin' off or are you doin' it for a reason?" Maxie coughed nervously, his face heating up considerably. "What do you mean?" He scoffed anxiously. "I just wanna know." Archie inched slightly closer to Maxie. "I'm just... spacing off, you idiot..." He said, anxiety prevalent in his voice. Archie leaned on his hand. He snickered as Maxie tensed, Maxie's face roaring with heat, his mind swarming with thoughts he wish he didn't have. He hated this. He wanted it to stop, but he also didn't. "Stop, Archie, I mean it. I can and will tear your face off." He growled. Archie backed off a pace. "I wonder why." he purred. Suddenly, the doors slammed open just as Archie jolted away from Maxie. A stunned Shelly ran into the room, panting. "Sorry to break in at a bad time, sir, but Team Magma has come! they must know that Maxie's in here!" Shelly shot a glare at Maxie as Archie stared at her. Maxie struggled to get out of his chair. "Let me see them. I'm not hurt. At least, I think I'm not..." He groaned, the sharp stab running through his legs once more. Archie suddenly heaved him up and held him. "I'll help you up there. surely if they see we're at peace, they'll cease their raid." Archie noted. Maxie nodded, his face still beating in heat from the blood rushing to his face. Archie carried Maxie throughout the facility- at some points, Maxie couldn't even touch the ground because of how Archie was holding him up- until they reached the end. At least a hundred of Maxie's grunts were lined up in front of Archie's base, either on land or on boats. Courtney and Tabitha were at the front, shouting endlessly at Matt and Shelly. They all stopped and turned to Archie carrying an injured Maxie. "Unhand him immediately!" the Magma Admins shouted at Archie in unison. "calm yourselves, I am perfectly fine. This announcement seems to be a... tad bit late, but Archie and I are on good terms now. We are no longer against each other." Maxie groaned. nearly three hundred pairs of eyes stared Archie and him down, and Maxie's legs would not stop their pain. He eased into Archie's arm, trying to stop his tension mentally and physically. Archie somehow seemed to help, and he seemed unbothered by this.
both Courtney and Tabitha disassembled the crowd, telling them to stop their raid on the Aqua base. Maxie watched quietly as Archie continued to awkwardly hold him, probably trying to prevent pain in Maxie. "...I believe you can let me go now, Archie." Maxie mumbled. Archie let go of him, not saying a word, just simply staring into the crowd of people. It took a few moments before he broke the silence. "how the hell did you get this many teenagers riled up into your team? And into those awful sweaters?" He snorted faintly, "Must've been hell to convince them." Maxie shrugged. "It really wasn't."
When the group of grunts retreated back to base, Tabitha and Courtney went inside of the Aqua base (with the begrudging permission of Shelly), to talk with the two leaders. "Sir, with all due permission, how in the world did you get caught?" Courtney questioned. "Long story." Maxie replied. "more importantly," Tabitha shot at Courtney, "how are we gonna get Maxie home if he can't walk?" Courtney sat there thinking, and then shrugged. Team Magma didn't exactly own Pokemon who could learn fly, nor did they beat the gym allowing it to be used, so they didn't have any easy options to transport Maxie back to base. "I can walk, Tabitha." Maxie leaned back, trying not to show the obvious pain in his voice. "Sir, with all respect in mind, you can't." Courtney stated flatly. Her cold eyes stared into Maxie. "She is right, Maxie." Archie said, "but, if you really need help, I have Pokemon that could transport you overseas." Maxie sighed, "I don't wish to go overseas, but thank you. getting home isn't a must-have at the moment." "Then where are you going to stay, sir?" Tabitha asked sharply. Maxie stopped. In honesty, he didn't know. this entire trek really was for very little. "...He could stay here." Archie broke the tense silence. "like hell he could!" Tabitha shouted. "Tabitha, calm yourself. It's a good proposition." Maxie stated. Tabitha mumbled something and sat back down. "If Maxie accepts, it's settled, then." Courtney stated. They all looked to Maxie, and he breathed in. "...yes, I'll stay here until I'm healed, then I will return to base."
Archie smiled. Tabitha shot Archie a look. "We'll return to base then, sir." Courtney said quickly, grabbing Tabitha and yanking him up from his seat. She whispered something to him, and then they walked out of the base.
