Chapter 9

Nicole sat on her seat when she sensed someone going towards her, "Nicole?"

It was Samantha, "Oh, hi. So what's up?" She heard a chair move and a small thud indicating she put her bag on the floor. "The big dance is this Friday!"

"That's cool. So how's taking you?"

"Ryan. I can't wait! I really like him..." She trailed off. Nicole didn't hear anything for a minute, "Maybe you should ask Shane."

"Sam! I can't do that! He's dating...Alex..." She said the name with such venom Samantha was surprised. Emily came up behind them, "Hey guys! Watcha talkin' about?"

"I'm trying to get Niki here to ask Shane to the dance."

"Who are you taking?"

"Ryan."

"Ooh, nice pick."

"Back off." Samantha smacked Emily's hand away and laughed playfully. Nicole smiled and explained the rest of the conversation to her twin, "She wants me to ask Shane, but he has...Alex...and besides, it's not like I'm going..."

"Oh come on, Nik! You never go! Even I'm going."

"Whoa... someone asked you?" Sam sounded Amazed, Emily fake-glared at her, "Jake asked me!"

"Oh...ok... You know he's had a crush on you since fifth grade, right?"

"That's years ago! I can't believe it..."

"Yep."

On the other side of the room, Shane was sitting with Riley and Jackson. Those two were brothers and Alex had paid them to play a little trick on one of the three. Riley looked up, "Hey, I heard Sam and Skater Girl-"

"Her name's Emily." Shane cut  in.

"Yeah, whatever." Riley ignored him, "Sam and Emily are going to the dance."

"And Nicole?"

"No one's asked her yet."

"Yet, I'm going to ask her." Jackson announced as the two looked at him, "What?" Shane was surprised. Jackson was a popular kid, but he was also a bit of a jerk.

"Hey Nicole." Three different heads snapped to the side, two of them saw Jackson, the other realized who it was, "Jackson...?"

"Yep. Good Guess."

"What are you doing here?"

"Nicole...You wanna go to the dance with me?"

Sam and Emily's eyes widened, "Holy-"

"Of course I will." Nicole smiled sweetly.

If they looked carefully they would notice Alex grinning in the corner with her arms crossed staring at the scene as her plan began to unfold. Nicole would sit there and wait for Jackson to pick her up while he'd be at the dance.

She could keep Nicole away from Shane for a while...
