Royal icing is perfect for decorating cookies and other treats. It can be colored or flavored easily and dries to a hard, smooth matte finish.

-INGREDIENTS-
Things you need ;

5 egg whites (see Note)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups powdered sugar
Lemon juice (optional)

-DIRECTIONS-
Let's Get Started

1. In a large bowl, whisk the egg whites and vanilla until frothy.

2. Add the powdered sugar a few tablespoons at a time, mixing after each addition, to reach the desired consistency. (If you want the icing to be really white, add a few drops of lemon juice when mixing the powdered sugar into the egg white mixture.)

NOTE: You can use powdered egg whites or meringue powder instead of raw egg whites.
