DEACON
I leaned up against a wall in my most favorite settlement. Goodneighbor. It was pretty easy to blend in here, and I liked to check up on Doctor Amari from time to time. See if everything was sunshine in her little Memory Den. It usually was. Hancock seemed to turn a blind eye, and no one else ever took notice. I studied the things around me from behind my sunglasses. I could hear Daisy in the shop over selling some things to a regular drifter and the lovely assaultron next door bartering some big guns. There were a few mercs wondering about. No one took notice to me and no one asked questions. That's all I asked for. My drifters outfit concealed me well enough, and my battered fedora covered up my hair I had decided to make black for the month.
A local merc stood in the middle of the brick gate that was in front of the entrance. I think he went by the name of Fin. That man was just a boat of rainbows, if you asked me. He puffed on a cigarette and I could see his crocodile grin upon noticing a new traveler enter the city.
The new drifter wasn't like the usual I saw. She wasn't who I had expected to see. The woman I thought would be the next to enter the gates went by Samantha, and she was a fresh-out-of-the-vault type. Pale and clean, still trying to keep up with past morals that were long lost in this shit hole. This girl, she was roughed up. She was in a flannel and jeans, worn and ripped. She had an old pipe pistol and a switchblade at her belt. Her long, dark brown hair was pulled back in a tight ponytail, albeit some strands had wiggled their way out and hung in her green eyes. Light freckles dusted her cheeks and forehead, and thin scars ran under her lip and down her chin. She didn't look as grimy as some of the drifters that walked through, but who knows when she had taken a shower last. Probably never. The Commonwealth didn't exactly supply 5 star hotels often.
The girl's attention was taken by the oh so charismatic Fin. He was trying his extortion crap with her too. I expected her to hand over all her things. She looked naive enough, and her lack of armor only told me she must have come from a farm or something. But she didn't hand over anything. She only gave him a warm smile and said "Nice try hon. You'll have to take by force. Now back off." Her doe eyes sparkled, almost begging for a confrontation. It must have been her innocent green eyes, or the way she stood, a frame that was, I had to admit, pretty attractive. She was short and almost small, but she had an air about her. Not entitlement, but confidence. Whatever the matter, Fin didn't bother again. He only grunted with an annoyed look on his beautiful face and turned away.
She certainly peaked my interest.
She paid no mind to me. She walked right past me and into KL-E-0's shop. This girl wanted to upgrade. I couldn't blame her. Pipe pistols were no more than peashooters.
As much as the woman interested me, my original target was entering the gates. I would have to investigate the green eyed farmer later.
