It was a bright Sunday morning. I knew it was time to get up when I could see sunlight shining through my window. I slowly got out of bed and headed downstairs. The smell of waffles, eggs and bacon filled the house. My mother loved cooking for us on Sunday mornings. It was just me and my mom. My father left us when I was 5 years old.
I could hear my mother singing. She had the most beautiful voice.
"Good Morning", she said as I walked in the kitchen. "Did you sleep well?"
"Yeah, I slept okay. Can I invite Max over for breakfast?"
Max was my boyfriend. We have been dating for almost a year. My mom didn't really like him though.
"Jamie, you're always with Max. You know how I feel about him."
"I know, but I will be leaving for college soon and I want to spend as much time with him as I can. Please!"
".... Fine, but tell him to hurry. The food is almost ready."
I quickly texted Max asking him to come over. He replied saying sure. He loves coming over when there is food.
I ran up stairs to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my hair. I always try to look nice for Max and since we only have a little time to spend together, I don't want to look messy.
Right when I walked down stairs the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it."
I hurried over to the open the door. I was kind of excited. Even though I see Max all the time, I still get excited when he comes over. I guess that's how you are supposed to feel when you're in love.
I open the door and that's when all of my happiness started to fade away.
"Umm hey can I help you?"
I was staring at 5 police officers. I could tell by the way they were looking at me that they were not happy to be here on an early Sunday morning.
"Are you Ms. Jamie Parker?"
"Yeaa Yeah, that's me." How do they know my name, and why are they here?
"You are under arrest for the murder of Natalie Storms. You have the right to remain silent and anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
I just stood there not knowing what to say or do. Natalie? I haven't seen her ever since high school graduation. Natalie and I were not friends. Actually, we were enemies. Natalie and her group of friends used to torture me in middle school. I remember on the last day of eight grade, I received a note from a guy I had a crush on. Well at least I thought it was from him. The note said:
Hey Jamie,
I can't believe it's summer already. I know we've never really talked, but I've been watching you and I think you're really cute. Meet me under the big tree in the park after school so we can talk.
- Brice
I went to the park after school. I was very excited to see Brice. I had a huge crush on him since sixth grade. When I walked to the tree he was no where to be found. But Natalie and her friends were. Before I could run away Natalie poured something sticky on me while her friends threw feathers. I looked like a chicken that was having it's feathers plucked, and what made it worse, before I could get away Natalie had already invited our eight grade class including Brice to come watch. I was humiliated.
I hated Natalie but I would never kill anyone, no matter how much I disliked them.
Before I knew it strong arms were pulling me out of my house.
"Mom!!! Mom!!!" I yelled as loud as I could. I can't believe this was happening to me.
My mom soon ran outside while I was being pushed to the police car.
"Hey! What are you doing with my daughter?"
She ran up to me trying to pull me away.
"Ma'am, your daughter is under arrest for murder. I suggest that you stop interfering with our arrest. If you want to see her you have to drive to the police station."
And like that my mother let go and I was pushed into the back of a police car.
