After the coroner left with the body and the cops had finished asking questions, we were finally left alone. I pasted a smile on my face and turned to Slivia and Jamie. "We will figure everything out I promise." I said trying to be positive and sound more confident then I actually was. Jamie looked between me and Slivia he grabbed both of us in a hug. I was shocked. Jamie was huge for his age built, and he didn't do physical displays of affection. He left go and turned to look me in the eye. "We won't allow you to fight for this family alone. We are going to help." He said stepping in and taking the man of the house thing very seriously. I stood speechless for a second. "You are both 13 and children weather you want to acknowledge it or not." I say trying to sound firm. Slivia looked at me incredulously, "You are only 16 Katie, you're just a child too." She said showing her age and attitude for the first time since she stopped grieving for mom.
"But I'm the oldest and I promised mom I'd keep us together and that is what I'll do." I promised with all the conviction inside me. Slivia and Jamie both looked at me. I knew whether or not they'd ever admit it that they looked up to me. I smile as reassuringly as I could. "Alright guys it's getting late. How about pizza for dinner tonight, huh?" I ask hoping that because it such a rare treat it might brighten them up, for a few moments at least. It work for the most part. We ordered two pizzas, fries, and a big gulp soda for each of us. When it arrives I opened the door and see none other than Christopher Savori. Big man on campus or so to speak. One of my few good friends. He smiles when he sees me and I quietly take the order and sit it down on the hall table. I then proceed to make a fool of myself by throwing myself at him and crying as quietly as I could manage. To most this would seem odd, but I've known Christopher since I was 4. He was 6 at the time being two years older then me he took me under his wing and never let go. He picked me up and moved us both across the threshold and kicked the door closed. He let me cry it out before setting me only an arms length away from him and asking, "What's wrong KitKat?" He hasn't called me that since I was 10. I gave a watery chuckle I wiped my eyes and sniffled. "Dad's finally done it Christopher he's finally ended it all. Now I have figure out how to keep us together and truth be told I'm scared." I looked at him and immediately start to apologize, "I'm sorry to just dump this all on you-"
"Shut up with that right now Kathrine Elisabeth Selling. You know you're family and family is there for one another no matter what. I'll help you keep your small family together but I don't think you'll like what we have to do..."
"What will we have to do?" I ask nervous there was almost nothing I wouldn't do to keep us together. "Lets get the twins fed and to bed then we will talk. If you don't mind sharing dinner with me?" He asked. I just rolled my eyes, punched him and headed to the kitchen knowing full well he wouldn't let me help carry the meal in.
