Chapter 1
ANA
I couldn’t believe this was happening, like seriously. I must be a magnet for blind dates from hell. Not only 20 minutes into this date and I wanted to do root canal on myself with a butter knife.
I agreed to go on this blind date to satisfy my father. My blind date’s father works at the same advertising agency as my father. They both decided it would be great idea to set us up on this less than romantic date in a romantic restaurant. How hilarious.
Don’t get me wrong I love my dad but he just does not understand that I am not into these guys he sets me up with. First there was Cole “Mr Smelly”, the Bank Manager. His body odour could have roused the dead. Then I met Daniel “God’s Gift”, the Lawyer. He wasn’t looking to date anyone but himself. Now there was this guy. My father had to be stopped.
When Owen first arrived at the restaurant I thought WOW. He is gorgeous, at 6ft 2 with a body like Vin Diesel. His shoulders were wide that he could carry two of me, one on each shoulder without breaking a sweat. He had strong rugged facial features with a wide smile of perfect white teeth. With his bright blue eyes that were brought out by his dark hair and natural olive skin he was a beautiful man. His is dressed in black dress pants and a charcoal long sleeved button down and black tie. He caught the eye of a few women in the restaurant as we were escorted to our table.
When I first met him he didn’t act like the other 29 year old men I knew, he didn’t seem cocky and self-sure of himself but that all change as soon as we sat down I realised he was nothing but a rude arrogant pig.
Our conversations consisted of me trying to draw blood from stone with him grunting if it wasn’t a yes or no answer. I get that our fathers have organised this date for us, but come on it is not that hard to act polite.
When I saw that the waitress was approaching us with our desserts I know what I have to do. It’s now or never. This night has to end. NOW!
“Look Owen, I’m guessing you seem like a nice guy but I know we both don’t want to be here. So how about we call it quits while the night is still young. It was nice to meet you but I really don’t appreciate being grunted at it is highly irritating. I will tell my father that you were very gentlemanly so nothing bad will come of this.” I say to him as I pick up my purse off the seat next to me.
He looks at me as though I slapped him and mumbles something incoherent under his breath before he pulls out his credit card to pay for the meal. Hell it’s the least he could do for making my night hell. I stand just as the waitress arrives and say bye and get the hell out of there. I don’t care if I was rude at the end but what could anyone expect. It was pure hell.
As I get outside I pull my phone out and text Rani my best friend.
Date from hell. Need drink stat.
I don’t even wait for Owen to get outside before I start walking. I notice that the temperature is still in the mid 20’s which is good for a spring evening in October. As I walk up the sidewalk I can hear the sounds of the city that I love with people talking around me, traffic going to places that they need to be. As I am walking I get a text back from Rani.
Come to McD’s now, I have an IV for your arm waitingJ.
I smile as I type back to her.
Be there in 10;)
Rani and I have been best friends since primary school, we live together and play in a band together. I absolutely love her. She was there for me when my mother died in a car accident when I was 16 and she has been there ever since. We live in a two bed apartment downtown. What really bonds us together though is our music. Our band “Take Flight” plays all the local clubs but we have a regular spot at McD’s.
