Butterflies

PROLOGUE:

‘You’ve got to promise me,’ she whimpered, struggling to hold onto her last breaths. ‘I never got the chance to tell them. They don’t know who they are or what they’re worth. Give them the letter I wrote. But most of all, you need to protect them .…keep them safe. As soon as everyone finds out I’m gone, everyone will be hunting them down.’

‘I give you my word, Michelle,’ he vowed, holding onto her cold, frail hand. ‘I’ll do anything.’

A couple of tears dropped down from her eyes. ‘Tell them I love them so much,’ Michelle continued, ‘and make sure they know how sorry I am. I never wanted to go like this, don’t forget to tell them that ...’

He nodded, feeling a couple of tears gather up in his own eyes. He was getting quite used to this now, but this had been much harder. Michelle had been his friend for over two decades, and now she was leaving forever, only forty-two years old. He didn’t want her to go, but she was too weak to go on. Her eyes were dull and lifeless, her skin was almost grey, and she could barely breathe. Yesterday had taken too much out of her, and now this was how nature left her.

She knew she was going to go soon, too, and the closer the time came the more frantic she became. She started to pant. Her grip on his hand loosened. She was staring at something above that only she could see. A few more tears escaped down from her eyes as she struggled to keep them open. After a few more cruel minutes, she weakly smiled at her old friend and whispered, ‘Goodbye, Frank.’

Her eyes closed gently as her last breath rushed out from her exhausted lungs. He stood up, wiped the tears away from under his eyes, and carefully let go of her hand. He unfolded the white blanket beside her bed and neatly lay it over her body. He knew that by the time morning came, it would be gone.

Yep, this is my newest story. I just couldn't wait to upload it haha. The first chapter will be uploaded tomorrow, so in the meantime, vote if you're interested! I don't really know why I did a prologue ... I guess I just wanted to be fancy :)
