Lucy P. O. V.
Dad got out of the car and walked towards the house, whistling the keys in his hand. Mom and Justin got out of the car too, then turned back when I didn't follow. "Come Lucy." My moms voice was impatient.
I pushed the door hard and looked up at mom. My stomach twisted as the look on her face matched her tone. Justin opened the door from the outside with a frown on his face. "You pull this handle down, on the inside of the door and then push it open, you know?" He asked, then shutting the door again. I jumped as I grasped at the handle and swung the door open and I stepped out, glad to finally breath fresh air. Justin grabbed my wrist and pulled me inside the house, closing the door behind him. Justin dragged me through the hall and to his room, shutting the door closed when I got inside the room. The room had sofas and lamps, tables. A huge flat black screen on the wall. I wanted to object and say that what he was angry about wasn't fair and that it wasn't my fault, but I didn't know what I should or shouldn't say in this situation. So instead I kept my mouth shut and bit the inside of my cheek. Justin let go of my wrist and sighed deeply as he ran a hand through his hair and closed his eyes. "Lucy...." He paused and I didn't know what to say. I tried to smile, a small one, but it didn't feel right. It felt unreal and dead. My lips were fighting to be curved upwards, but I let them win and broke down in front of him, I fell down to the floor, feeling frustration, anger, sadness, fear and confusion getting mixed together and creating a whole new feeling, a feeling I hadn't felt before and it made me cover my face with my hands as guilt and madness took a hold of my body. But his eyes maintained closed. "Lucy." He said again
I nodded, knowing not a single word would be able to escape my mouth without cracking. He got down on his knees and just sat next to me. "Lucy, what is going on?" I looked up and he signaled for me to tell him.
"I, I...." I trailed off.
"It's okay, just tell me." He sat next me, not moving a muscle and I understand why he won't touch me. I'm just a dirty hooker. I disgust myself.
"You know what I am and I, I.." I trailed off once again. "I am so scared."
Justin got up and leaned across. "Please don't be scared, I um, I won't let that guy hurt you."
I flicked my eyes to the floor and breathed heavily. "Justin?"
"Yes?"
"Can I sleep in your room tonight?" I moved my gaze slowly and careful, like I was scared he would attack me if I did any unexpected movements, like a wild animal. His brown orbs brunt into mine and he nodded.
Later it was dark outside and Justin was asleep across the room, the door was part open, I had begged Justin about having the door half open because I wanted to hear if he would come after me or if he knew where I was. Noises and sounds drifted through the hall. Clattering kitchen noises and a faint murmur. I recognized the voices to be mom and dads.
He ran and I ran.
The rain blurred my vision and the mud was everywhere. I carried on even though I was convinced that I couldn't lift my own foot one more step. I heard steps behind me so I forced one foot in front of the other, again and again. Unsteady breaths got sucked in and out until my lungs were about to turn to dust, and I still ran. Terror filled my body as I kept running.
He was getting closer.
I could relax myself and accept what I was about to become or I could fear it the rest of my life and keep running, with other words. Give up or taking the chance.
I kept running.
"Ssssh, I've got you"
I struggled to get away from whoever it was, but nothing helped. The person had his arms wrapped around me tight and I couldn't tangle myself out of the grip. Then I realized it was Justin whose arms were around me.
The door opened and light streamed in from the hall. "What's going on in here?" Mom asked.
Justin answered. "Just a bad dream, but you're alright now. Aren't you, Lucy?" His arms were still wrapped tightly around my tiny body. My heart was slowing, vision was clearing. I pushed him away.
"Yes, I'm fine."
I said the words, but part of me was still running.
Mom narrowed her eyes at us. "Why are you sleeping in Justin's bed?"
"I, um, I-"
"-because of the nightmares. She asked me if she could sleep in here and you know me, I'm a kind guy, so I let her sleep in my bed." Justin cut me off.
Mom made a cough sound or a exhaling sound or something in between that and gave me one more stare before she closed the door. I exhaled and felt Justin's arms unwrap around my body. "Thank you." I whispered.
"You're, um, you're welcome." He looked me straight in the eyes. I touched his chin with a fingertip and trailed it down to his lips. Warm and soft. His eyes followed my hand and his breathing got heavier.
"I don't know how to thank you, I mean-"
"-it was nothing, mom's always like that."
I paused and gazed at his beautiful features. "That wasn't what I meant, what I meant was that you saved my life. I really don't know what he would have done if you hadn't saved me." I sighed and closed my eyes, moving my finger from his soft lips when I realized how wrong it was.
He huffed. "I'm sorry, um, are you alright?" Justin asked, and linked his arm with mine, probably not seeing or feeling like what we were doing was wrong. We can't flirt when we're related like this. It's just wrong. "All this stuff.... Don't think about it."
"I'm fine." I lied.
He nodded to himself as if he didn't believe me, but decided to just go with it and relax. Typical boys.
Soon he was fast asleep and I watched his chest move. Up and down. It relaxed me. I heard a slight sound from downstairs: mom? She can help me sleep. I slipped out of bed and down the steps.
"Mother?" I called out softly, walking into the dark kitchen. The floor was cold and my feet froze. Goose bumps walked along my arms and up my spine. I turned towards a movement. Not a sound or a wind of air in the room. The cold floor suddenly felt warm under my bare feet. The wrong size and shape of mom was standing in front of me. Light flooded my eyes and I opened my mouth to scream.
