She opened her eyes to an empty room that seemed as if it stretched on forever. There was a dark mist enveloping her, only leaving a small area to allow for movement. Slowly she began to take frightful steps into the unknown, seeing if she could see anything ahead of her. She knew she was walking, but it felt as if she were going nowhere at all, everything looked exactly the same as when she first started moving. She jumped as she felt a warm soft hand grab her shoulder, stopping her dead in her tracks. When she turned around the fog had been blown away and everything came into view. Suddenly she found herself staring into a beautiful meadow with roses growing around the perimeter much like a wall. Her feet were being tickled by the soft grass below them as she turned to view the person who grabbed her. Fear snaked through her veins, rooting her to the spot and her eyes began to fill with tears. She couldn't believe it; It was her...
"I haven't seen you in years." she knew she spoke, but she couldn't hear herself, she could only feel her lips moving and then suddenly a great bang sounded and the floor collapsed beneath her.
Dragoon gasped at the feeling of crashing back into her body, causing her to startle awake. What a terrible nightmare she thought to herself, I haven't dreamt like that in forever. Silently she looked around noticing something was off. A faint night light illuminated a small section of the room showing a modest dresser next to the bed, one that was so small it looked as if she barely had enough to fill it. The room was mostly filled with boxes, and the floor was littered with dirty clothes and hangers. When Dragoon tried to get up she was stopped by the weight of the warm body curled next to her, using her arm as a pillow. Looking down at the petite girl in the bed she couldn't help but marvel at her white blond hair, the strands seemed to glow in the dim light. Her skin was pale and itt too almost seemed to glow or glitter in the faint light. Her face was peaceful, as if she were dreaming of kittens or unicorns, whatever normal little girls dreamed of. There was a pink tinge to her cheeks and Dragoon attempted to carefully extract her arm so as not to wake the sleeping child. Sadly her skills were not graceful enough because the little cherub slowly peaked open one eye. Softly Dragoon leaned down and whispered as she brushed a stray hair from her face,
"Shh Alicia, it's alright you're dreaming, just close your eyes again." Alicia's eyes fluttered open and closed, as if she were struggling to keep them open, trying to stay awake. Dragoon watched with bated breath, only relaxing when the child drifted off to sleep once more. Deciding to get up, she left the child to sleep, her body stretched across the mattress. She relished in the feeling of freedom once she was no longer trapped under the weight of Alicia. As she climbed down from the bed she almost fell, forgetting how high the bed sat above the floor. As she puttered around the room all Dragoon could think about was how she could spend more time with the person in her dreams. She could only watch Alicia and know her through the dreams that the child created for her as a dream guardian. She also knew it was against the law, becoming attached would distract her and cause conflicts in the way she worked. Were Dragoon to be caught with her, Alicia would be tortured and killed. The child would lead a short life, while she herself lived on forever. As the Princess, Dragoon needed to set an example for her people. If she didn't follow the rules, how could she expect them to do so? Carefully she began to make her way across the room, dodging the items on the floor. The Ramen bowls piled on the bedside table, and the toys stacked neatly in a corner near the end of the bed were the only organized things in the room.
Dragoon walked quietly around the room, a melancholy aura surrounding her as she tried to keep quiet, not wanting to wake Alicia again. When she reached out to turn the door knob, Alicia stirred once more, "Take my umbrella and coat, it's cold outside-" The child's voice trailed off as she once again succumbed to sleep. Looking around the room once more, Dragoon couldn't shake the feeling that maybe Alicia couldn't take care of herself, and she shuddered at the thought of leaving her alone.
As Dragoon walked through the door she entered a dark hallway. The only source of light was the glow of a night light at the end of the hall. She was thinking about what Alicia had said as she looked out the window and saw the bright flash of lightning as it lit up the sky outside followed by a loud crash of thunder
She sat down on a soft chair, sinking down slightly into the worn surface. Many thoughts raced through her mind as she listened to the rain picking up outside the window. 'Where am I again? I know this isn't Kalatura...' Memories raced through her mind, some she could barely recall clearly and it gave her a headache just thinking about it. She was too tired to think about anything of importance right now, she needed to come up with a solution, but her mind was racing a mile a minute and her eyes slowly began to close, the sounds of the storm slowly dragging her down into a deep sleep. Her last coherent thought before she drifted off to sleep was how if she was with Alicia, then she was so very far from home.
As she slept, hot tears ran down her face just like the rain pouring down the window, blurring the view of the outside world . This new world she was in, if she were to stay here much longer she would never be able to go home. Not now, not ever. She would become a fugitive, everyone would know where she had gone, she had to stay here with Alicia. Only time would tell if this turned into a punishment or the greatest adventure of her life so far.
