Chapter Two

My family arrives at the ball within the next 30 minutes. I see many people that I recognize based on height, hair color, and house colors, but don't see Rachel and Ethan. The should have been here by now, my consciousness screams. I try to calm myself and find Bess.

She isn't hard to locate, standing only feet away from me. Wait for the signal, I whisper to her, and she nods, knowing that Ethan and Rachel are probably waiting for the same thing to make an appearance. I search for the royal family as I wait, and, not surprisingly, they're standing a floor above the ball, watching their richest subjects dance and become drunk, having no idea what is coming for them.

The clock chimes, one, two, three, four, I walk quickly, though not too quickly as to cause a disturbance to the other lords and ladies, until I'm directly under the floor the royals stand on. Bess is already here.

Five, six, seven.

A loud voice booms over the ball, "Introducing Rachel Titanos and Ethan Titanos!" The Banshee announcer calls out. I smile as they slowly make their way towards us. Rachel wears a beautiful gown, dyed a deep purple, with a glittering silver neckline, which reaches to the top of her throat, and silver lace around her waist, and a simple silver mask to match her house colors. Our conversation begins, but only through our heads as I make sure that I convey the voices correctly.

Are you sure we can do this? Bess.

Of course we can! Samson joins in, though I don't see him.

Don't question your ability. That would be Ethan.

The royal family finally makes it's way to the floor we stand on, with no manipulation needed, and we all disperse. King Tiberious Calore and Queen Annabel Lerolan dance first, and when they finish, Ethan takes my arm and guides me to the dance floor. I don't bother asking what he's doing. We both know that we're trying to blend in, and that we will be married when our plan does finally come into effect.

Ethan sighs, and I see just how worried he is for this to work. His black eyes are shadowed, and he seems very tense. We sway with the soft music, and time seems to a low for a moment. I realize just how close we are, and that the rest will simply take time.

"You'll make a wonderful queen," he murmurs, and I truly hope he's right. I stare into his eyes, searching for something solid to make me believe him, but I find nothing. Instead, I find myself looking to his mind, and am startled to see that he's been watching me when I'm under the slightest pressure to see what I do, and how I take on my problems. Realization hits like a tidal wave: he wanted to know what I would do with a crown on my head, and with a kingdom and army at my disposal.

"I hope you're right."

Hours later, I find a Skonos skin healer. I don't recognise him, but I don't care. I manipulate him, and walk him towards the king, who Samson has carefully drawn into a crowded area, and force the healer's hand onto the king's. Bess said that cancer is the most deadly disease to give, simply because it can be given, but never taken back, so that is what the healer does, under my full command. It will take years for the disease to be fully effective, but this has always been a waiting game.

I leave the healer. He doesn't remember anything I just forced him to do, and the king is just as clueless. Ethan finds me moments later. Is it done?

Yes.

This is really short, but I promised a chapter, and I'll try to keep up with this story a bit better.
