After Jake left I immediately jumped into the shower. I picked up last night's clothes and put them away in my room, searching for clothes that were clean to wear today. I mean I have to look cute, I can't just wear a regular outfit. Wait- what am I saying? I'm not trying to impress Jake! We barely know each other! I just need to wear something regular. Just regular clothes. Regular.
Jake isn't regular. He saved me from Kreg last night and stayed all night to make sure I was alright. That isn't regular, as well as his looks. Now those are very advanced. I immediately pictured his dark, messy hair, his glowing mysterious eyes, and the way he smiled was like the sun coming up in the morning.
Woah.
Okay just focus on doing my makeup and hair. Not on Jake. I mean this is crazy! I barely know the guy and I already have a crush on him? No I don't, I can't. It's impossible we aren't even friends really. At school he will probably just ignore me like always, sit on the lunch table with two girls at his sides, and laugh with all of his other scary friends. I could most definitely forget about him. Still what he did for me was awfully nice...
The sound of my reminder on my phone to leave for school went off and broke up my thoughts. I hurriedly grabbed my keys and bolted for my car.
“Thanks for picking me up last night, I owe you one,” Lilly admitted hopping into my car.
“I still have a pretty bad headache,” she winced, grabbing her head and frowning. I looked out my window and considered telling her what happened last night, but that would mean explaining last summer and I was definitely not ready to do that. Would I ever be?
I parked the car and hopped out, waiting for Lilly to do the same before I locked it and walked inside the gates. After grabbing our books for class we walked over to meet up with some friends.
“Did you hear what happened to Kreg last night at his party?” Tommy eagerly waiting to be the one to spill the gossip. I froze at the mention of his name, waiting to see if I would be a leading character in his story.
“I heard he didn't pay his dealer back, and so his dealer came to the party looking for him. They must have beat him up because they found him knocked out cold on the side of the house! I always knew he was a coke head!” Tommy was practically panting from excitement, feeding off everyone's shocked and amused expressions. I laughed in my head at how ridiculous the rumor was, smiling a little to myself for knowing the truth. Then turning serious, I realized just what he had said to me last night.
'Jon wanted me to show you how easy it is to get you, Next time I'll...” Next time he'd what? Hurt me? Why weren't Jon and Ben just doing it themselves? Had they hired more guys to join their gang and now they were all targeting me? I started to breathe faster and my face turned hot as the bell rang and I speedily walked to English. I tried to remember how long it had been since Stephen had gotten arrested. Was it two months ago? Unfortunately, he had a tremendous lawyer. My parents are rich, but his are richer. We couldn't get more than two year because they just called it sexual assault, not attempted rape. I shuddered at the thought of it. Right now, his lawyer was working out a deal, still, for him to get released on parol. The bail price wasn't too high for his parents to pay, they just wanted him to learn a lesson.
“Miss Levens? I hope you are listening Miss Levens because this will be on the test on Friday,” he snapped, as I looked up at him dazed. I nodded and continued to write notes. English is my best subject. I'm not even worried about missing a few notes.
The rest of the day passed by pretty regularly, getting the same glances from Jake as I did yesterday. Except he didn't talk to me and he looked away before I could smile or wave to him. What was going on?
