*BANG BANG BANG* - “Police”. I ran to my aunty Analyses’ arms as she crouched down scooping me into her arms then adjusting her eyes to the red and blue flashing lights. She twisted the door open and a serious police officer stood right infront of my aunty and I. Aunty Anna’s hair fell behind her back perfectly. Like she’d just had a spa. But the police officer didn’t hesitate twice to see my aunty and I clueless to why he was standing infront of us at 3am in the morning. ‘May i come in’ he askes softly and my aunty flicks the lights on adjusting once again to the brightness. I was turning 6 next month and aunty Anna was caring for me while my mother and father had left on their honeymoon to Australia. She was moving to France after my mother and father came back. She was dads twin sister. I loved aunty Anna just like i loved my parents.

Before my mother left i asked her about her family. She brushed off by changing the subject and i asked her “Do you have any brothers?” “Yes, but he has children now”. “Can we meet them?” “No sorry Lay he may not think its okay. He has 5 kids now. Louis, Lottie, Fizzy, Pheobe and Daisy. I think one of them are your age. Cant remember.”

The officer trails in following Aunty Anna and I through to the lounge as we sit in wonder as to why the officer was at our doorstep at 3am. Aunty put me down on the couch telling me to sleep tight as I slowly drifted off to the sound of the mans voice and aunties anxiety. Then suddenly i heard sobs in the direction of aunty analyse. I stared at her then thought why was she crying? Why was the man here? Now im awake, i was determined to know. Questions ran through my thin head and she kept sobbing. I was independent for my  age and knew immediately something was wrong.

The officer left what felt like an hour later and he had left my aunty distraught. Why?

“Aunty Analyse, Aunty. Are you okay? Whats wrong?” My soft voice sent shivers down her spine as i took her hand. She smiled and said ‘get some rest darling. I love you’. And she lay down beside me on the couch. The lights faded away and I curled into Aunty Analyses arms. But at the same time i thought to myself. Why? What? Why? Why was aunty crying?

The sun shone through the curtains and blazed through my eyes and i sprung up to my feet. I wasn’t the kid that slept all day. I shook aunty realising her hair was now a mess and bags fell under her dulling long lashes. “Aunty, Aunty” i spoke loud enough for her to hear me. She flutters her eyes open and i stare at her closely to impersonate her actions. A smile creeps on her lips and i smile. Then i think to what happened last night.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.

Breakfast passed silently and i was urging to ask Aunty why the officer was here. So as we walked back to the couch, i ask aunty “why was that man here aunty? Why were you crying? “ Aunty sits me down on her lap and begins talking. “Your mummy and daddy love you very very much. More than anything in the whole entire world.” Tears start to creep into her eyes and i cant help but feel stupid. But as the next words fall out of her mouth, i freeze. This cant be happening. Im dreaming. Wake up. *Pinch* - Ouch. “Your mummy and daddy have died Layah. Their plane crashed as they were coming to land.” Tears fall in realization of what she had just said. “I love you so much baby girl”
