Dean sits at his large wooden desk, adjusting the frame of his glasses as he reads from his trigonometry textbook, hoping to ace the test tomorrow. He needs to get the scholarship to Harvard, without it there was no way for him to attend the school, his dad would rather him work at the garage than go to college. He struggled to desipher the terms in the book, writing them down as an attempt to help him understand. Math has never been a strong subject for him, he would much rather write.
"Dean. It's time for dinner, and the neighbors are over also." His mother, Mary, always sounded so cheerful and pleasant, no matter what the circumstance may be. He could tell when she was stressed or unhappy though, it was visible under her broad smile.
Dean placed his sheet of notes into his book, closing it and walking out of his small bedroom. Stopping at the top of the stairs when he hears voices, listening for a moment then continuing down the stairs.
He reaches the bottom with a smile, Sam looks like he is enjoying talking to the neighbor's child, Gabriel. Sam sees Dean looking at them and waves him over. "Hiya Sammy."
"Hey Dean." Sam says, Gabriel extending his hand. "This is Gabe."
"Hello Gabe." Dean shakes his hand firmly.
"Gabe might join the football team this year, Dean. We could sure use him. " He threw his arm around Gabe's shoulder. Gabe nods with a smirk.
He adjusts his glasses once more, saying goodbye and going to find his mother.
He enters the kitchen to find his mother leaning over the countertop, struggling to ice the cake she had made for the guests. "Hello, sweetie." She looks up, going to wipe sweat off of her forehead but as she does so she just smears icing there.
Dean walks up to her with a laugh. "You have a little um." He gestures to her forehead.
She giggles and walks to the sink to wet a cloth to clean it off. "Have you spoken to Gabriel and Castiel?" She lays the cloth down. "Their father couldn't attend dinner, so it is just them here."
Dean frowns. "I have talked to Gabe but not Castiel. Where is he at?"
Mary returns to the cake, continuing to frost it. "I beleive he is out on the front porch if you'd like to go talk to him."
"Alright, I will. Is dad not home yet?" He grabs a bottle of water from the fridge.
"No, he won't be home until around midnight. Him and Bobby just got a new car taken to the shop and they want to clear it out." Dean nods sympathetically and leaves the room.
He opens the door with a creak, the smell of smoke hitting him and he gags. "Um Castiel?" He sees a figure sitting on the steps turning around.
"Depends on who is asking." He takes a drag from his cigarette, blowing the smoke out through his nose. Dean coughs on the smoke once more.
"Well dinner will be ready soon and my mom sort of wants me to try and talk to you." He takes a seat next to the smoking, tattoo covered, boy.
"Well why don't you go tell your mommy that you don't need to talk to me?" He takes drag off of his cigarette. "Besides, I'm just here for Gabe."
Dean crosses his arms as a sign of protest. "She won't let me leave you out here alone."
Castiel sighs. "Fine whatever." Castiel offers Dean a cigarette but Dean refuses.
"My mom may not enjoy the fact that you are smoking near the house. She doesn't like it very much."
Cas smirks, throwing the burnt out cigarette into the bushes. "Well I'm not smoking anymore." He leans back againsts the step, smirking.
Dean relaxes a bit when Cas closes his eyes, he was able to examine Castiel further, his strong build, square jaw, jagged hair, he was actually quite attractive. But he probably wasn't queer like Dean, he seemed like a player. The type of person to go to parties, drink, get high, get laid, then have the girl walk herself home. The type of person that Dean wasn't.
Cas could feel Dean's eyes on him, and he smirked. "Ya' know, if ya' take a picture it'll last longer." He oppened his eyes to find a blushing Dean.
Dean sputters out something to an extent of an apology, his blush depening and them sitting in silence, staring at each other until his mother calls them inside.
Dean is the first to get up, running inside, embarrased. This gives Castiel a chance to examine Dean, but the first thing he notices about Dean is his ass. Castiel nodded approvingly, standing to follow Dean into the house.
They reach the table, the only two seats left are next to each other, so they take a seat. It is silent until Mary speaks. "Well, how is it boys?"
Gabe nods, swallowing his food so that he can speak. "The porkchops are excellent Mrs. Winchester." He cuts off another chunk and puts it in his mouth.
"Well, thank you dear." She turns to speak to Castiel, but he is listening to music and bobbing his head. "I'm guessing that he is enjoying his as well."
Gabe apologizes for his brother, kicking his foot under the table and Castiel puts his music away. "Sorry Mrs. Winchester." He rolls his eyes, slumping in his chair.
After dinner was over, Dean helped his mother with dishes, and once they were done Dean went back upstairs.
When he entered his room he was shocked to find Castiel sitting on his bed, flipping through his journal. "W-what are you doing in here?" Dean snatches the journal from Castiel's hands.
"Well aren't you cranky? I just got bored. What? Is it your bedtime or something?" Castiel laughed pathetically.
Dean sit at his desk, making sure everything was in order then turning to Castiel. "I don't have a bedtime." He said plainly.
Cas looked around, bored. "I'm guessing you don't have anything fun in here." He picks up a knowledge bowl trophy and looks at it approvingly.
Dean looks around at his pathetic room, not much at all besides a bed, desk, dresser, and small shelf. "I still don't exactly understand why you are in my room. Why don't you go sleep with your girlfriend or something?" Dean shifts nervously in his chair.
"I don't know what makes you think I have a girlfriend." He sits back on the bed, looking into Dean's green eyes with his blue ones, until Dean looks away shamefully.
"Why do you keep doing that?" Dean questions, messing with the button on his shirt.
"What am I doing?" Cas squinted.
Dean blushed a bit. "You just keep staring at me."
Castiel leans forward, his elbows against his knees. "How am I suppose to keep my eyes off something as hot as you?"
Dean's eyes grew wide in shock. "D-did you j-just say what I thought you said."
Castiel leans back on the bed. "I probably did."
The chair Dean is sitting in spins slightly as he processes all that has happened. "Y-you mean that you find me attractive?"
The tattoo covered boy sits up. "Of course I do."
As Dean is about to speak once more Castiel's phone starts to ring, him putting a finger up as he answers. "Hello? Okay, dad. I will. Alright. Bye." He hangs up. "I have to go."
Dean nods slightly.
Castiel stands. "Well aren't you going to show me out?" Dean comes out of his trance, standing to open the door but he finds himself being pushed against the wall. Before he can protest he is being kissed, and he kisses back.
Dean looks at Castiel, he can feel his cheeks heating up. "I think I can find my way out from here." He opens the door and stops. "You can call me Cas by the way." He shuts the door and Dean stands in shock until Cas' footsteps disappear.
Dean staggers to his bed, stopping when he sees a white strip of paper under his trophy. He pulls it out to find Cas' phone number written across the sheet.
Dean smiles and sits on his bed, thinking about Cas, and the kiss, and the staring, and the whole night. A proud smile spread across his features.
