I had to say, even though he wasn't my best friend anymore, I was pretty pumped to finally see Shayley and the rest of his band perform. I sometimes listened to their music, hating myself for letting him get away. I got lucky and won a radio contest for backstage passes, so I get to meet everyone! Maybe he'll remember me.
The night was perfect. I had my girlfriend by my side. She, unfortunately, didn't have a backstage pass. I had to go in alone. Music was loud, the crowd was rough, and I felt nervous to the bone.
I don't know what it is about Shayley that's making me nervous. I've never been so nervous for him before. Maybe it was the fame, or maybe it was his beautiful voice serenading me. Who knows?
"I'll catch ya' later." My friend hugged me as I waited in front of a cross-armed security guard.
"Don't worry, I'll text you." I promised, winking at her as she walked away, waving.
"Right this way." The security guard let in.
I walked up the ramp from the cold, dark night. There was only a small room and it was very cramped with all five members relaxing after some really hard work.
"Hey, welcome!" The lead singer, Austin, greeted me by placing a hand on my shoulder and leading me in further.
"I don't know if I should say congrats 'cause we're not that special. I'm Tino." The drummer giggled, gently shaking my hand.
Phil, one of the guitarists smiled in the corner. I know they're, like, the only two remaining members since the beginning. Alan was sprawled out on the couch, laughing as he tried to balance one of Tino's drumsticks on his palm.
"Shayley?" I questioned as I finally got over to him.
"(Y/N)? Is that you?" Shayley's face grew a giant smile.
"Yeah! It's been so long!" I walked over, arms open. He cracked up, laughing with joy.
"I missed you, girl." He hugged me to a point that my organs were going to spill out of my body.
"You guys know each other?" Austin asked Shayley. He nodded, releasing me, but keeping a hand on my back.
"Damn, Shayley." Alan shook his head. "You always get the good ones."
"Chill out, we were just best friends before I got into the band." He sighed, almost disappointed.
"What a flake." Phil shook his head.
"Anyways," Shay turned to me. "How have you been?"
"Life's been exciting, but probably not as exciting as yours." I giggled, blushing. He only got more attractive. I was surprised.
"Oh, it's not that great." He looked down and then back up at me, his eyes tracing my body.
"I'm pretty sure you're lying." I gave him a crooked smile and leaned on one leg.
"Yeah, he's lying." Tino nodded.
"You got really beautiful...not...not that you weren't before." Shay got off topic.
"Miss, five minutes left." The security guard popped his head in. My heart beat fast. There wasn't enough time. I wanted to stay with Shay.
"Awe, that sucks." Shay blushed.
"You don't have a right to say that. You've been hogging her." Alan huffed from the couch. I saw Austin roll his eyes.
"I'm going to miss you, Shay. I'll probably never see you again." I said, whispering in a whine.
"I mean...you don't have to go." He mumbled. "You...could come on the rest of the tour with us."
"I-I don't have any supplies." I was shocked.
"So you're saying you'll come?" Shay looked at me with hope. I smiled. "We could just drive by your house. Having a giant tour bus in your front yard isn't that weird."
"Sarcasm, nice." I nodded. "But yeah...I mean, I'll need to pack a little." I blushed.
"That sounds great, (Y/N)." He came close to me, too close for comfort.
The rest of the band waited on the bus as Shay helped me pack. My heart was beating a million miles a minute. I couldn't believe that this was happening. Was I really running away with an old friend?
"I missed this place." Shay sighed happily.
"It missed you, too." I laughed. "I missed you." I implied.
"Same." He nodded. "Listen, (Y/N), for some reason...I've thought about you constantly. I know it's been about two years since we've talked...but you were my best friend and I'd like the chance to take you out." His mumbles were nervous.
"Like...a date?" I felt my face heat up and the blood rush upwards.
"Y-yeah, I mean, if you'd want to." I heard a nervous laugh as he looked at the ground, hands in his pockets.
"I think that sounds great. It's a great way to catch up...and maybe a little more." I winked.
"You're so awesome." He giggled, relieved. "Let's get your stuff on that goddamn bus."
"I'm ready." I squinted my eyes, determined.
