Sam POV

Sam brushed her purple hair away from her hazel eyes. Looking at the clock on her phone, Sam sighed. Midnight already?, she thought to herself. The heat from the summer climate had left her wanting to take her skin off and just sleep. Just as she found a comfortable position in her bed her phone lit up. She grumbled.

Who the hell is awake at this hour?

After the third attempt to grab her phone, Sam looked at the notification.

Oh, it's just Facebook.

Sam opened her phone to find that someone had simply posted in a group that she had joined several months ago. Trying to read it through the blinding screen she could make out the words "help" and "insomnia". Sam decided to add this kid and help him out. After all she had dealt with insomnia from time to time. Remembering the painful nights of being alone when she couldn't find a way to turn off her brain.

After a couple of minutes he decisively accepted the friend request.

Hey, I saw your post about insomnia. You wanna talk?

She figured that someone else, most likely someone more popular in the group, had already helped him out. Sam was startled when he almost immediately responded.

That would be amazing, he texted.

You want to call? I find that talking helps sleeping a lot more than just regular text, Sam texted back, thankful that she could talk to someone.

Sure thing! Just give me a minute to grab my headphones.

After reading, Sam patiently waited. It only took him a few minutes to call her. She answered with an open mind.

When answered there was silence. The awkward silence of two people afraid to speak and anxious of what the other would sound like or be like. After a few seconds, he spoke.

"Hello?"
"Ah, yes, hi. So how's the insomnia doing?"
"It's going"
" Yeah I get that, so do you like Steven Universe?"

The call lasted for a good few hours of just Sam and Jacob talking about random nonsense. She was amazed that she was able to talk so well to him after just meeting him. At around 3 in the morning he told her that he should "go to bed". After that, she said good night and hung up.

What a sweet kid

About twelve minutes later, Sam was able to fall asleep.
