Sunday is here. Graduation Day. Everyone is excited. My sister gets my hair and makeup done, my gown all ready and waiting for me to get into it. My mom looks proud to see that I've completed high school against all odds. My mom was poor, and even though she came from a well off family they never helped her, or at least, that's what it looked like to me. My sister had money. She drove a nice car and she was married with three lovely children. She had everything that I wished for in life. She was very pretty too, so that topped it off.
Getting ready took hours, but it was worth it. For once I felt so pretty I could not stop looking at myself in the mirror. "You feel pretty, huh?" my sister asked, grinning from ear to ear. "Yes," I responded, smiling as well. My hair was done in curls and my makeup was done to perfection. I had on red lipstick, my favorite. I felt beautiful.
"Come on it's time to go" my sister said. "Mom!" I shouted. My mother came out of her room. "Why aren't you getting ready?" we asked her. My mother looked sad. "Why do you look so sad, mommy?" I asked. She turned to me and said, "I'm sorry El, that was the Vice Principal of your school. You can't go to graduation."
