Harry woke up at dawn, his joints stiff and aching from sitting in the cold all night, in one position.

He was shivering but at least he was still alive.

It wasn't that cold yet, it was only about mid-autumn, but the canopy of trees shaded the forest, making it cold and dark.

Alive.

He was, wasn't he? It felt odd, surely he shouldn't be? Somehow though, there he was.

He had survived the night.

He wandered around, exploring the forest a bit more. Harry was hungry, looking around the only thing that looked even vaguely edible were some berries on a nearby bush,

As he got closer his heart sank, they weren't edible, he had nothing to eat, hooray, yet another problem with no obvious solution.

The Dursleys generally only gave him enough to keep him alive and functioning so that they didn't have to dispose of a corpse.

Welp, I'm screwed, Harry thought oddly calmly.

Damn.
