•••LUKE'S POV•••
When I was walking back to my locker, talking to James and Jai, we all saw a big group of kids standing in a circle. We all thought it was a fight so we went to look. As soon as I saw what it was I dropped my books and ran. I knew I should have warned her earlier. I didn't know where I was running but I just wanted to get away.
"Luke it wasn't what it looked like," Brooke yelled out to me, while running after me.
"Yeah yeah," I thought, "the typical it-wasn't-what-it-looked-like crap."
I kept running; now with tears streaming down my face.
"Since when did I start crying, I haven't cried in years...I think. I can't believe Brooke would do that to me. I thought she really liked me. How could I be so stupid. That would be too good to be true. A pretty girl like that would never choose me, why would I think that she ever liked me."
Negative thoughts kept coming into my head and they were getting worse and worse.
"Ahhhhhhh!!!" I heard a piercing scream from behind me.
I turned around and saw bright lights, then it went black.
•••BROOKE'S POV•••
When Rick called me over to the big group I decided that I didn't want to be rude and ignore him, so I walked over to the group. Before I knew it Rick had grabbed my waist and started kissing me.
"Stop!" I struggled pushing him off me, "I have a boyfriend."
After I said that I saw Luke running away down the hallway.
"Luke it wasn't what it looked like," I yelled out to him, running after him.
He didn't stop running though and as soon as we got out of school he tried to cross the road but didn't look.
"Ahhhhhhh!!!" I let out a piercing scream.
He turned to me but it was too late.
I quickly got out my phone and dialled triple zero. After I did that I ran over to help him. He wasn't moving and at this time I was freaking out, I think I was going to pass out. I started crying; bawling my eyes out. Jai, James, Skip and Louisa all rushed over to us and then everything went black.
~~~2 hours later~~~
I woke up to complete blackness.
"Where am I?" I asked, not even knowing if anyone was there.
"Oh Brooke, your ok," Louisa exclaimed. I could tell it was her from her voice. Right at that moment all of the memories from the day came flooding back to me.
"Omg, Luke. Is he ok? Can I see him? Where is he? Is he still alive? Omg what if he's not? That would be all my fault," I piled Louisa with questions.
"The last I've heard is that he is in a coma in the Royal Melbourne Hospital," she answered.
"Let's go there then," I insisted.
"I think you need a rest Brooke. You passed out on the road not long ago," she told me.
"No, I'm going there right now and no-one is stopping me. Do you want to come?" I announced.
"Yeah ok then," she replied, knowing that she could not win the argument.
I called up a taxi and soon enough we were on our way to the hospital. When we arrived I ran straight through to the front desk to ask which room he was in.
"What room is Luke Brooks in?"
She checked her computer and answered,
"Sorry no visitors allowed. Only family. You can come back and see him tomorrow."
"I am his family though. I am his sister," I lied.
"Okay then. He is in room 45 on floor 3."
"Thanks," I grabbed Louisa's arm and ran to the elevators, pressing the buttons impatiently.
When we reached Luke's room I took a deep breath, then stepped inside. I was scared to see what state he; scared to see the damage I had caused.
"Hi Brooke," Beau said weakly after realising my presence.
"Hey," I replied.
When I got to Luke's bed and saw the state he was in, my knees turned to jelly and collapsed on me. I knocked my head on something before everything went black again.
*Beep, beep, beep, beep* a continuous noise filled the room.
I opened my eyes to see where I was only to see blinding lights. I sat up and felt a massive headache wash over me. I could see tubes and needles around me. Then I realised that I was in a hospital.
"Hello, is anyone there?" I asked hoping someone would respond.
"Brooke?" a nurse questioned me.
"Yes," I replied.
"You have passed out and hit your head hard on a metal bar," she told me.
"Ok then. Am I allowed to go see a friend in the hospital at the moment?" I asked, hoping that I would be allowed to see Luke.
"No sorry, you need to rest for a day or so before we can release you," the nurse gave me some strong headache tablet then left the room.
"Are you ok sweetie?" Mum asked after the nurse had left the room.
"Brooooooooke!" Louisa yelled running into the room.
"Im fine, I just have a headache. Hi Louisa," I replied, "how's Luke?"
"Well he's still in the same condition as before,"Louisa replied sighing.
~~~The next day~~~
"You're free to go," the nurse told me.
After she told me I went upstairs to check on Luke. I had had a sleepless night thinking about what I had done to him and if I hadn't have gone into that circle with Rick then none of this would have happened.
When I got to his room and went inside I saw that his condition hadn't changed. I felt so bad for being the one that caused all this.
I noticed Jai was sitting on a chair in the corner of the room with a tear stained face. Beau, Gina and Louisa were all standing together, off to the side making occasional small talk. It didn't look like any of them were in the mood to talk. I walked over to Jai and as soon as he saw me he gave me a weak smile.
I pulled him in for a hug and as soon as I did he burst into tear. I tried not to cry. I had to stay strong for him.
Jai," I comforted him, "he will be alright." I hoped that this was true.
We stayed in a hug for a while before I went over to see Gina and everyone else.
"I'm so sorry Gina. I didn't mean to hurt him. I just didn't think he would do that. I'm just so sorry," I explained.
"It's ok Brooke, I understand. Louisa told me all about it. It's not your fault," she pulled me in for a hug.
I couldn't keep strong for any longer and I burst out into tears into Gina's shoulder.
