I stare into the cold abyss of night.
The wind whistled through my hair, not being careful about its journey.
Tickled by the grass, my toes curl in discomfort.
The night surrounds me like an army.
The darkness seizes my sight, fills my thoughts, and overcomes my being.
I take a breath in, and the darkness takes my lungs, too.
My journey in the nothingness has been long.
My hands tremble, not wanting to go on.
I reach out a palm in front of me, and take a step.
Suddenly, a pinch of light appears far off in the distance.
Difference. A change.
I pull back, and the light goes out.
Frustration and fear are two words to describe me.
I take a step out again, but the light still isn't there.
Why not?
That nuisance of a light.
Why did it go?
Why do I want it now?
I sigh, and stay still, waiting for another light.
Nothing comes.
