I'm not one to read a lot of horror, but "Sometimes They Come Back" by RainandSonder was a totally manageable three-chapter tale, so I decided to give it a whirl.
What I found was a deliciously creepy little read with a clever reveal that made me smile. Not a happy, friendly smile -- no, it was a crafty little smile because RainAndSonder managed to hook little ol' non-horror reading me into falling for their tale.
This story could use a little grammatical polish, but it was a lot of fun to read and I enjoyed the author's overall style.
I often gravitate toward writing that is clean and straight forward rather than overly descriptive. RainAndSonder wrote simply yet effectively, focusing on showing vs. telling in this work. Some of the descriptors were almost sparse but they conveyed sparks of emotions, which were compelling for this reader.
Good job, @RainAndSonder -- Sometimes They Come Back is a sweet (but poisonous?) treat :)
