What the hell had you been thinking?

Flashes of last night came back to you: the warm feeling you get after consuming alcohol. Gryffindor students dancing around the common room with the log fire crackling away in the fireplace. Lee Jordan standing up on a table, singing some words to an old wizarding song you didn't know but everyone else seemed to. Flinging your arms around a tall, redheaded figure that stood so close that you could smell the cologne on his body. The slight mumbling of words falling out of your mouth, and your lips pressed against the lips of your best friend.

You had kissed George Weasley. George, bloody, Weasley.

You rolled over in your bed, burying your face deeper into your pillow. You couldn't believe that you had done that. The embarrassment over the entire thing trumped the headache you felt coming on. You wanted to sink deep into your bed and stay there for the rest of your life.

Oh God, George. What did George think? Right now, he probably thought you were a bloody idiot. The alcohol had taken a lot of your memories of the night, leaving you with only flashes here and there. If only you could just forget that the kiss had ever happened, maybe things could go back to normal. But no matter how much you forgot it, it didn't take away from the fact that the kiss did happen.

The memory was so vivid in your head, each movement precise and each colour as real as in the moment it had happened. You could still hear the sound of the raindrops hitting the window behind the two of you as your fingers made their way into his hair. Your fingers had played with each soft, ginger strand as you closed your eyes, letting instinct take control of the kiss. George had placed a hand on your back and one on your side, his lips still in shock from the suddenness of the kiss. And that was when everything went black, each moment after lost to the stupidity of your drunken state.

You wanted to throw something or beat your hands against the wall. Each time the thought crept back into your mind it was like it brought a new wave of frustration with it. You had let your guard down in a moment of stupidity and recklessness, leaving your most prized and loving relationship in the world at risk.

Over the course of your seven-year friendship, you had never once let your guard down. It wasn't like you didn't want to, sometimes it was all you could think about. You'd fight with yourself, your brain and heart in constant battle, fighting out for whether you should be rational or put everything on the line. There were moments where you wanted nothing more than to just kiss him full on the mouth and let a confession of your feelings slip from your lips. From the moment that you, George and Fred has stepped off the Hogwarts Express in your first year, you had been joined at the hip. If you tried at a relationship and failed, not only would you have lost a lover, but also the best friend you had ever known.

And there were moments, wherein the struggle, you almost let everything go. They always seemed to be the simple moments, where nothing out of the ordinary had happened and yet you could feel your heart skip a beat as time began to slow down. George might have a particular look on his face or be wearing one of his adorable Weasley sweaters. He could be walking down the corridor in your direction, the biggest smirk playing on his lips. He could be dancing around and acting like the complete and lovable goofball that he was and you could almost hear the words slip from your lips and see the look in George's eyes when he heard them.
