Fear is like a drug, pulsing through the veins of anyone who upholds it; scratching and rushing trying to take over every inch of their holder. You see, that is usually the feeling that people get when they think they see a ghost. People these days are obsessed. The feeling that someone is watching you from the dark shadow behind you; itching at your soul with grief and pure terror.

The reason that I'm introducing with this is because a certain Jane Smithers is experiencing this feeling at this exact moment. Precisely, because I may or may not have accidently knocked down a book from the bookshelf behind me. Rowan glared at me like I had just eaten the last pizza pocket.

'Sorry!' I mouthed, walking to the chair beside him and sitting down. Rowan took out a small silver ring with an obsidian pearl. This was how we communicate in his school. The ring ables me to sent him telepathic thought waves to his brain, and so on. So here's the deal: I'm a ghost. The only person I can be seen by is Rowan.

I have no trouble walking through walls or people but there is a bad side effect to that ability; the only way I can pass through an object or person is if I am aware of its presence. Like when I knocked the book off the shelf I wasn't aware that it was there, so when I made contact, I didn't pass through it. Bad thing is, this ability makes it harder to pick up heavier things than a marker so when I do, it drains my energy.

Rowan slid the ring on and breathed in heavily like he was being possessed.

You have to be more careful, Akira. I don't need conspirators thinking that there's a ghost in the school! He sent.

Well it's not like they're wrong or anything. Chill the fuck down, Rowan. I sent back, the snarkiness obvious in my thought.

He huffed. Look asshole, I really need to focus on this essay that's due tomorrow. You can fly around if you'd like, just please don't try to move anything.

Fine. I'll try. Scanning in my surroundings, focusing in on every detail making sure that I'm aware of every single object in the room.

Satisfied, I begin to levitate and float around. Rowan notices immediately and smiles genuinely, thinking that I didn't see.

When the final bell rang, Rowan walked towards the centre doors with me floating slightly behind. Rowan held the door open for some other students, while I just passed through them all. Once Rowan was a safe distance away from the school with no one in ear shot, he took off his ring and began to talk.

"That was close this time, Akira." Rowan says.

"Sorry man, I was distracted." I said, looking at the trees whistling in the distance. I placed my feet onto the sidewalk beside him and started walking.

"Oh yeah I forgot to mention, my grandpa is visiting for the weekend this evening. You'll have to stay in my room for a while, and tonight as well." Rowan said, nearching his house.

"Ugh, seriously?!?" I said, letting out a huff. Rowan chuckled.

We walked up the driveway and entered the home; Rowan using the door, and I, passing through the window into their hallway. He slid back on his ring since he couldn't talk to me in public without looking insane. We walked into the living room where his grandpa sat on the couch staring off into the distance.

"Hey pops." Rowan said, greeting him.

"Ah!, hello my wonderful grandson!" His grandpa exclaimed. "And who is this handsome young boy standing beside you?"

My eyes filled with panic. Rowan looked at me, panicking as well.

"C'mon there's no need to be shy, I don't bite." He said jokingly.

Can he... can he see me?

I... I'm not sure.

So I decided to risk it. "You can see me?" I asked out loud; something that I can only do when it's me and Rowan in private otherwise it would just be like hearing a random voice.

Suddenly, the door swung open revealing Rowan's parents with bags and bags of groceries.

"Rowan, would you be a dear and help me put these groceries away!" His mom called.

"Sure." Rowan yelled back, shooting me one final glance that filled my stomach with butterflies.

"Ohhhh" Rowan's grandpa said, like he just understood the meaning of life. He pointed in the direction of the kitchen. "His parents, they can't see you, can they?"

I shook my head. He smiled. "But he can, right?"

I nodded.
