We all drowned in a bathtub together

I drove my wife and two daughters to dinner. My mind was definitely off focused today. Not only was my brother battling alcohol abuse, he was also depressed. My parents were so worried that they were flying down today to come see him. "Look out!" My wife screams frantically. I whipped my head back towards the road just in time to swerve out of the way and down a cliff, where the car tumbled over and over again. It was a rush of senses overload, and then pain. Nothing but pain. But then, I saw a tunnel with a white light at the end of it. I followed it to see a figure in a black cloak waiting. The figure reached out his hand. I reached out to grab it, somehow knowing in the haze of pain that this would take the pain away. Beneath the hood, I could see the figure's eyes. And they looked...remorseful? I had no time to question this as blackness overwhelmed him and I thought no more.

I work up in what appeared to be...a lobby? There were see through spirits floating around, with another spirit floating around with a clipboard. Ghosts I realized. Frantically, I looked down. I was transparent. So I was dead. I looked around quickly, and wished not to see my wife and daughters. It was bad enough my wandering mind had killed him, if I had killed my wife...my daughters, 17 and 14, so young with so much left to live...

I caught a glimpse of auburn hair, saw my wife across the room, with both of my daughters nearby. My heart dropped. I walked...floated? Over to them. They looked the same as when they died. No blood or wounds or anything like that. My youngest, with her dirty blond shoulder length hair left down, her crystal blue eyes shut tight as she cried. My wife's hair was tied up in a messy bun, her brown eyes wide and glistening with unshed tears. She was holding my youngest, Ellyia, who was sobbing, in her arms.My eldest, Zeita's platinum shoulder length blond hair was still left to tumble down in waves. Her eyes were a mixture of colors, as per usual. The kaleidoscope of blue, green, brown, and even some purple still swirled, with red and gold flecks scattered throughout. The strangest part of it was her eyes weren't glistening. She shed no tears. Instead, she looked almost...happy? Regardless, I wrapped them in a hug. "I'm so sorry." I said, my voice muffled in my wife's shoulder. "If it weren't for my driving, you all wouldn't be dead. Zeita, Ellyia, you were so young and didn't deserve to have your life cut short because of me. I'm sorry." I lowered my head shamefully. My youngest wrapped her arms around me. "It's okay dad." She said, sniffling. I felt the arms of my eldest daughter wrap around me too. She opened her mouth to say something, but was cut off by the man who was wandering around. Looking down at his clipboard, he raised his pen and asked, "name?" He said this in such a bored and sad tone. Zeita spoke up.

"Tom Salvator," she said pointing to me, "Kathy Salvator," pointing towards my wife who gave a weak smile, "and Ellyia Salvator." My youngest waved. "And me, Zeita Salvator. We all drowned in a bathtub together." She said, smirking for whatever reason. All of a sudden, the ghost's head whipped up, eyebrows scrunched together and mouth agape. "Zeita Salvator?" He exclaimed, smiling. My daughter smiled back, and hugged him. "Hello again, Charon." "Wait what? Again?" I spoke up. I was hopelessly confused, and could tell that the rest of my family was too. Charon turned to Zeita, raising an eyebrow. "They don't know?" He asked, his voice expressing disbelief. She chuckled and shook her head. "Nope. They're going to find out today." Then she rummaged through her pockets, and produced a small bag, which she handed to Charon. "For my family, as well as for all who cannot cross." She said, chuckling at the expression on his face as he opened it. "I think you've paid for the souls for the next 200 years milady." He said, disbelief on his face. She laughed, the sound bright and merry. "Come on, I'll take you guys across." He said, waving them over to a barge that floated on top of a river.

They boarded, careful not to fall in. He poled them across the river, chatting animatedly with Zeita the whole way. When they reached the other end, she hugged him goodbye and he departed with a wave. Okay, what the fuck was going on?
