It was 2053, the earth was in peril. The planet crumbling away slowly. Nuclear radiation consuming the air. Making the atmosphere unclean and not breathable! The shelter was limited leaving many people exposed to the radiation. More than 400 people in each nation died a day, which meant 2 thousand and 700 people would die in a week! This was a time in history that will never be forgotten, the mothership flew here, destroyed everything that us humans have, they stole half of the population's food, our weapons and many lives! The mothership polluted the atmosphere; whilst they invaded earth, they let the motherships engine free its toxic waste into Earth's atmosphere, enough waste to adapt to oxygen and replace it, causing every nation to be infected by the toxic waste.
However this toxic waste somehow had a mind of its own; it would only pollute the atmosphere of the cities, the farmlands were free of it, the farmlands contained wonderful breezes, fresh yet freezing air! I was a farmer, so was my uncle, and my aunt, they inherited me when my parents sadly passed away. Well, I wasn't old enough to know what actually happened to them, plus my uncle and aunt never had the time to sit and spend valuable time with me. They were always too busy growing crops, feeding cattle, buying more land! It was a horrible process to adapt to as I grew up, but I managed, after all, they were the only family you could have out here, in no man's land, no friends, just me, my uncle, my aunt and the cattle.
When it was my seventh birthday they told me to sit down on a crippled straw chair on the wooden balcony, then they told me to close my eyes, I expected something rubbish, after all, they were poor farmers, I expected nothing more than what I received. They handed me a box, a large one, I opened my eyes, I glanced at the box confused, then it shook and made a growling noise, my face lite up, this wasn't some rusty old clock or a bunch of socks stuffed inside a large box, there was some sort of animal in this one! I ripped the cardboard lid off and chucked it into the pig mud, then I jolted my head to glance at the sight of the inner realm of the box,
"A PUPPY!" I screamed at the top of my voice, with the highest level of happiness, remarked with the biggest grin on my face!
It was a Jack Russel it was a brown fudge kinda colour, it had a long sausage-shaped tale that would always stay pointing in the same direction. Its eyes were an adorable light blue! Oh, and how could I forget, its smell, its coat smelt like a-a, Ummm, a banana milkshake, however, its breath smelt like... BLAH ..... pure vomit, absolutely horrible, it smelt worse than goat sh*t! I remember my Uncle and Aunt looking at my face cringing and laughing in response to it! They then looked me in the eyes, my Aunt placed her hand on my stiff shoulder, starred into my dazzling eyes and asked me,
"Ash, you make the big decision, what are you gonna call him?"
My face light up, my eyes widened to there full length and lite up like the sun with excitement! This was the first time in my life that I could make a major decision that occurred within the family forever, my Aunt lent over to me and flicked through a book of names, I glanced over my Aunts leg and starred at the dog, then I glanced back at the book, the first name I saw was, Harley, I then swiftly jolted my body to see the dog once more and then I screamed out,
"It's HARLEY!!"
My Aunt calmed me down,
"Mary, I know his name, he is Harley, I name him Harley!"
Then my Aunt questioned me,
"Ash, this is a big decision,"
Then she smirked and then giggled under her breath
"So, you have to choose the name wisely, you say his name is Harley,"
Then I replied with a scream!
