Feliciano crested the hill, looking down into the main village that surrounded the castle. It was filled with fire. He gasped and kicked his horse to the castle, thinking it was a dragon.
Instead, he found a mass of people. They each were carrying torches and throwing rocks. They were yelling and shouting. Feliciano couldn't make out what they were saying, nor could he get through the crowd with his horse.
He found a post to tie his horse to and ran through the crowds toward the castle. Once he got near the castle, quite a few villagers stopped him, suddenly recognizing the Jack.
A man grabbed his arm, "tell the king that he'd better attack the Diamonds!"
Then a woman, "he'd better attack or we'll have Maddox do it..."
Feliciano turned to ask who Maddox was when he came face to face with a tall man. He instantly recognized him. He had been cast out from the army. He was one of the brightest, but he could never follow orders. He almost nearly started a war with the Clubs at one point in his tenure.
He led the war against the Diamonds after they took the Bolder villages, which were never recaptured, causing quite a riff between the kingdoms, especially since they were the Diamond's most profitable mines now.
Feliciano shrunk away, disappearing into the mob. He was able to slip thought the cracks in the crowd with his thin frame.
He ran into the castle where Ludwig and Kiku were mid conversation. Ludwig turned to him, full of anticipation, "So?"
Feliciano gasped. He didn't even find out if the Diamonds were behind it. He looked at the ground, "I asked the jack..."
"Whatever, what did the king say?"
"The king was busy... Basch never said anything, he just accused me of accusing them of being the villains... And then I got scared and ran away. He's awful mean."
"Oh," Ludwig said, "So they deny it! And they refuse to speak to us?"
Kiku sighed, "I think you are making a mountain out of an anthill..."
"No," Ludwig said, "the people want us to attack, and the Diamonds attacked us. Feliciano, bring Maddox in here, I know he's out there. It's time he paid the Diamonds a visit once again."
Feliciano bowed, shaking.
He wasn't afraid of Maddox as much as he was of this war. It didn't exactly work out the last time they fought.
*Meanwhile*
Alfred looked at the Colonel, and Sadik cocked his head to one side, "The Diamonds come for a visit and now you are fighting back?" he asked, watching as the troops packed up camp behind them.
"We would help more, but the king has ordered all the troops back to castle to prepare for the war."
"The Diamonds are not fighters, they haven't so much as hurt a fly since Francis came to power! Not since the last time they warred against you and you took their land."
The Heart's Colonel smoldered, grinding his teeth at this comment, "unlike you, we have a capable king for waging war, and we will be victorious, the great general Maddox is the only one to have won against the Clubs and he will prevail again. He has learned much in exile." he walked off and Sadik followed, attempting to calm him down.
Arthur turn to Alfred, "He's upset, he didn't..."
"Oh yes he did, even the knights have no respect for me now."
"Now now Alfred, stop whining, we have a kingdom to rebuild and no time to waste and you're.... well, moping!" Alfred was struck by these words, but thankful for the kick in the butt all the same. Alfred was ready to take on the world for a moment before what the colonel had said floated back to him. War. He sighed, "it doesn't matter if all the kingdoms are at war."
"Then talk to them, explain the situation to them."
"They don't listen Arthur, don't you understand? No one can control them."
Arthur glanced at him, "No one?" he asked, "what about the queens? We're quite persuasive."
Alfred laughed, "Yeah, like that'll work.... Lili too's kind, she won't say a word and Elizabeta's just as war hungry as Ivan."
"They don't have to speak to each other," he said slowly, "they just have to keep the kings at bay, we know how to get our way, and we can control you kings." he said, looking deep into Alfred's eyes.
"The jacks are always reasonable if we can put in our two cents," Yao added, stepping up alongside them.
Alfred nodded, "yeah, that might work. Do me a favor Yao. I need you to send Oliver to the Diamonds, Lukas to the Clubs and Tino to the Heart's kingdom. Hurry. We're having a meeting."
While the messages were being sent, the king and queen went to find somewhere they could hold the meeting. They found a nice manor that was mostly undamaged.
And, luckily, after some persuasion on the messengers parts, the kingdoms agreed.
