Adrien didn't know what else to do but stare.
His father, Gabriel Agreste, the cold man who'd been so distant and heartless to him for almost a year . . . had just apologized.
He gazed back, his jaws parted, stunned into silence. Then, while he was still trying to register what was happening, his father rushed forward, flung his arms around him, and pulled him close more tightly than he ever had before.
Adrien stared blankly past his shoulder, then slowly raised his arms and returned the embrace. It grew more heartfelt as the moments continued, while Marinette watched in silence from the side, a beautiful smile across her face.
"Son, I love you . . ." Gabriel murmured, his voice choked with emotion. "I love you more than anything in this world. Don't you ever forget that."
Now, he didn't remember the last time he'd felt so treasured in his own home. Even though his mother wasn't there, he still had his father.
Marinette had been right. His being akumatized had changed his father once again.
But this time, for the better.
