Sophia has sacrificed everything for her sister, Lucy. Her home, good name and marriage prospects gone, all because of her sister's indiscretion. She even pretends to be a widow in order to play mother to Lucy's illegitimate son. Still, the taint of scandal clings to them.

Lord Haughton is determined to prevent his family's good name from being dragged into the mud
and after discovering his brother has fathered a child out of wedlock, sets off to right the wrong: by paying the child's mother in exchange for her silence.

What he doesn't count on is being rebuffed by the fiery, fiercely protective sister of the child's mother. His offer is thrown back in his face.

Haughton graciously agrees to step out of their lives until the persuasion of his sister throws the pair together again. Sophia thinks him a pompous man, Haughton can't get her out of his head.

Only adversity opens their eyes to the gold in each other's characters. Will these two firstborns, constantly sacrificing for others, finally get their own ever-after together?
