(Dan's Pov)

Soon before I could gather what happened. I was on a bench with a blanket around me with police everywhere. Smith yelling how I was an idiot coming alone and Phil looking worried to death. I couldn't focus, I couldn't pay attention. Her game was swirling in my head. Did I miss something, did I miscalculate? "She told me she was on that train," I said suddenly standing to my feet. "She's playing you kid," said Smith. "No no she hates liars," I said looking around and everyone being questioned by the police. No one was aloud to leave the station. We were all trapped with her. "She's here," I said in a slight panic. "Dan, you need to calm down," Phil said worried as he put his hand on my shoulder. "No Phil she told me the truth when she said I could see her... maybe," I stopped and went pale.

(Flash back)

I boarded the train alone with others in my section. An elderly pair in front, a mother with child to my right and a teenage boy talking to those girls. The older guy sat right upfront so he was hard to see. All before my phone rang. I can't remember what happened around me during that time. If she wasn't ahead of me then...

(End of flash back)

"She sat behind me," I blurted out. "Quick someone get me the security footage and bring me everyone who's on the same cart as him," said Smith and everyone scrambled. Soon there was a small group of people in front of me. Three elderly couples, an adult man around his 40's, the mother with her child, a teenage boy, and two older girls whom appeared to be sisters. "Well let's question them to start. Dan, Phil keep an eye on them," said Johnson as he and Smith each took one person at a time.

The elderly people cleared and so did the teenage guy. Just about everyone was aloud to leave. About a few hours later and the two girls were left. "So Dan could she be camouflaging herself," whispered Phil. "Most likely," I whispered back. "So tell us why you both are here," asked Smith. "Well um we're seeing our grandparents who live in the country," said the older girl. "Yeah our parents are fighting again so we chose to live with our grandparents," the other said. "And did you see anything suspicious," he asked. "Well the guy sitting next to us was super chatty before the train took off. He seemed super nice, he could tell we were nervous," the younger one smiled. "Yeah though we didn't see anything weird. He made a super long phone call so we talked amongst ourselves. Suddenly people in the cart behind us started screaming and crying so we panicked and hid under our seat," the other explained. "Interesting. We asked that young man these questions but he didn't say anything about you girls," Smith said sternly. "Really? I mean we were flirting so maybe it made him embarrassed. Though he was on the phone till we stopped here. Just staring out the window. Oh He did give me this gift before he made the call though," the older one smiled taking out a pink pouch. "Yeah he said to open it after we got to the station. In the chaos I kinda forgot about it," she smiled.

With one glance of the pouch I ran out of the station to see the teenage boys clothing scattered on the street. "NOOOOOO," I screamed falling to my knees, as Smith opened the pouch and pulled out a magazine clip of my face with a pink happy face drawn on it with lipstick.

"I almost had her!" I yelled as I punched the ground. I soon became damp from a light rain that took over the skies. "Dan..." Phil said softly walking up to me. I felt his hand on my shoulder and I sighed. "She was in my grasp and I fucked up," I sighed. "Dan it's not your fault, you've done everything you could. She's a pro. We'll get her, I promise," Phil said hopefully. "We have to Phil. I can't let these people keep getting hurt," I said and Phil hugged me. I cried that day. The rain soaking us both. Soon I was back in the police car being taken back to the station. I stared out the window and sighed. "I played her game, I won, yet I still lost. I need a better plan. I need to beat her at her own game," I though.

"Hey don't beat yourself up kid. This happens," said Johnson trying to cheer him up. I shrugged. Phil and I walked into our room and got a fresh pair of clothes out. "I'll go change in the bathroom," said Phil and he walked out and shut the door behind him. I slowly changed. There was no enthusiasm left in my body. I just needed some sleep. I put my wet clothes in a plastic back and crawled into bed. I slipped my hand under my pillow, i felt something and my hand instantly recoiled. I sprang up and threw my pillow to see a (favorite color) envelope. "Oh no no no no," I mumbled as I opened it. Inside fell out a picture of the back of my head. Behind it said

I wished you'd turn around.

There was a letter. I scanned it carefully. It read:

Dear: Daniel

I'm sorry about leaving in a hurry but you didn't give me much of a choice. It was cute to see you run after me. So sweet. How did I get so lucky to have a playmate like you. However I feel like this cat and mouse thing is too much like my grandfather's favorite game. I want something a little different, a little more fun. How about we do an all or nothing. Come alone to the north tip of the park three blocks from you. 9 pm. You win and I give up entirely. No tricks, nothing. I will be behind bars in minutes. But if you lose well then all I have to say is:
Dan, where's Phil?

-(Y/n)

I stopped reading and ran to the bathroom and swung the door open. Phil was gone. I panicked. I found myself uncontrollably screaming to where Smith and Johnson had to drag me back to my room while they looked for Phil. I was too emotional to be any real help. I'm worthless, I'm pathetic. My eyes fell onto the letter on the ground. I looked quickly at the clock. 6pm. "Three hours," I mumbled. I ran to the desk and began to come up with plans and ways to catch her and save Phil.

I managed to get out of the police station and I was at the park. The chill of the evening air creeped on me. The pavement soaked from the brief shower before hand. I looked around trying not to seem panicked. Trying to force my body to relax. My eyes darted to two figures playing chess. Then to the small group of people walking together. The chess player stood up and motioned for me. I clutched my coat and slowly made my walked over. The figure had a women's figure. She pulled down her hood and I froze. I guess she saw the panic in my eyes and she smiled. The other player was now sat next to her slumped over. She gently pulled the hood off and it was Phil. He was completely passed out.

"Is he..." I trailed off in fear. "Daniel I'm surprised at you. No no he's just out cold. I'm afraid he won't be awake for a couple more hours. Just in time for our last and final game," she said meekly. "I'm done playing games," I couldn't help but scream in her face. She didn't even wince. "Shame. So I guess I over did it, in the last game. I forgot you're still new to this world," she sighed. "I won't let you escape this time," I snapped as I grabbed her shoulders. "My my you're quite handsy," she smirked as she turned that in to a hug. My heart sped up. From fear most likely. I felt steel on my back. I stiffened. "Is that a knife," I whispered. She chuckled and said, "No silly boy. It's a pen. How could you think I would ever hurt my greatest playmate. My rival," she whispered as she pulled away. "Since you got me how about you play that game with me. No murder, no hurting anyone. All or nothing. One game. You win and I will gladly except my fate. I will no longer hurt anyone, and I will disappear. I will go back to being a normal girl. I will have finally been satisfied. Yet if I win you let me continue till I am satisfied," She smiled. I once again became a hamster on the wheel. I didn't trust her but she never lies. She's told me how much she hates liars. I can't force her to stay put with out putting Phil at risk. I have no idea what backup plan she has. Truth be told I fell for her charm and uttered the words I'd never thought I'd say, "what game."

She smiled wide and looked down at the table.

"Chess."
