HER LITTLE BROTHER WAS tearing up his room looking for his rainboots and coat. The frantic child ran into Adley's room.

"Adley I can't find my boots, I need my boots" Adley was laying in her bed scrolling through her phone on that Saturday morning. She turned to her panicked brother whose hands were pressed in her bed and his face was up close to hers.

"Calm down Ev, we'll find them." Adley swung her legs out of her bed and walked into Evans room. He was a meticulous boy and usually had everything in order. Although at this moment it was messy.

"Evan, what did you do to your room?"

"I can't find my boots!" He clenched his hand pulling on his hair. Adley began looking around for them, she checked the normal way they come into the apartment and the bathroom.

"How about you where my boots?"

"There going to be way to big!"

"What about your winter boots?" Evan looked up at his sister a little bit of relief could be seen. Adley smiled, he was pleased with that thought. "Can you clean up your room and I'll go grab them?" Evan nodded and started to pick up his room.

Adley sighed and grabbed some money out of her purse. She stole money from her mom to get by. She handed the money to Evan and told him to be safe as he walked down the fire escape to meet his friends Oliver and Sofia.

Adley grabbed her backpack and shoved her books in, including her bio textbook which she hadn't begun studying because of her immense procrastination. She grabbed her phone and texted Kay wondering if she would like to meet up.

Kay sent a simple, yes and where should we go text. Adley said the usual spot, a small coffee shop on the corner. It was called Mugged Café, it was owned by a sweet young woman. She went down the fire escape, and walked down the street, a small smile on her face.

She spotted Kay who was sitting in the small booth a cup of iced coffee in front of her and she was swirling it around with her straw. She was intently focused on the book she was holding. "Hey Kay" Adley slid into the booth.

"Hey," she pushed her bookmark and closed her book, "are you ready for the biology test?"

Adley's head thumped as she put it on the table in exhaustion. "Not at all" she sighed. "I'm going to go get something to drink, I'll be back in a sec." Adley got up and ordered a chai tea.

She sipped the hot tea and pulled out the text book her mind immediately mush. She looked over at Kay, the girl had her finger following the words.

Kay was someone that Adley envied and she hated it. Jealousy wasn't the best emotion to have and she didn't want to be envious of her best friend but she couldn't help it.

Her father always told her that jealousy was a powerful emotion, it was the emotion that pushed you to work harder. Adley was envious of Kay's family. She had a loving mother and a father that was still there. Kay has a older sister that takes care of her.

People take care of her friend, she has people that will make her soup when she sick. She has a mom that will make her a snack when she is doing homework. A dad that will teach her about the ups and downs of life.

She doesn't have to take care of a little brother that cries out every night out of fear keeping her up. She has a sister to teach her how to deal with boys and the drama of everything.

It made Adley feel so helpless comparing her life to others, it was like she had no one that would catch her if she fell and that thought made her shrivel up inside. "Adley? Ads? Adley, snap out of it." Kay was waving her hand in front of her face pulling her back down to earth. "What'd you get for number sixteen?"

"Umm, lemme check" the two girls finished their work and it felt good to get it all done.

"Hey Ads, I have a confession," Adley's eyes raised at her friends words, "I really like this guy and he's on this academic team thing and I wanna join so could you do it with me?"

"Who?"

"I don't wanna say"

"Really, it's me Kay" Adley pouted.

"I'll tell you if you promise to join the team." Adley nodded.

"Okay so his name is Ned Leeds and he's super cute and he is in my english class and he makes me laugh so much and he's just really cute" Kay rambled.

"You sound smitten"

"I am, he is so freakin adorable, and highkey hot, like why aren't girls all over him?" Adley had only known the boy from my engineering class and walking home with the parker boy.

"Okay then you are so head over heals for this guy" Kay blushed at Adely's words and bit her lip looking down.

Adley sighed now having one more thing to do. It wasn't bad or anything, it was just something to add onto her list. She wish she could get a break, any kind of break.
