Early
morning light shone throw the cave onto my seaweed bed, glimmering strips, a cold wave blew over me as I slowly got up, "Uggghhh" I grumbled, unraveling strips of seaweed that had gotten ravelled round my tail. I sat up and floated towards the kitchen, my Dad Pau looked at me as I walked in, "Morning son!" He said, in an unusually cheery mood; he was holding a frying pan near the geyser, it had been turned up full blast, he was making fried Caviar!

I smiled as I swam out of the house, caviar was my favourite breakfast, my father had a job interview today to be one of the princes body guards, he had been 'let go of' by the police force in which he had worked for before. It was a simpler time. I swam up beside my best friend Edd, we swam up towards the surface; we weren't really supposed to go there, but it was nice to take a break from it all. A human ship floated alone in the distance, it shouldn't be a problem, when were they?

"Edd," I asked "How long do you think it will take for that ship to get close enough to see us?" He looked at me and fixed his shirt and shall, "Probably like 30 minutes, so plenty of time to have some fun!" He said, looking towards the sky, it was nice to see it every so often.

The boat shook as I tried to steady myself, father said I should get to know the ropes of whaling before I leave. My Father had been trying to get me to go on a whaling trip with him for years; I didn't exactly agree to come, he just kinda, brought me. He pulled out his spear gun "Here, hold this" I reached out to grab it, I held it up. It was heavy but I managed, I was fairly well built for a twelve year old. Suddenly screaming filled our boat, "OVER THERE!" a crew member bellowed, I stared into the blue waves, I saw movement "What is that?" I asked, I continued to look down as my father told me "A test run for you" I started to get the spear gun ready. My father nodded at me, I aimed and shot. My veins felt like Ice, the water turned crimson but nothing floated to the top.

I looked up, we had dearly underestimated how fast that boat had been going, I saw it lay anchor just near us. "Edd," I said "We should probably go. Be careful" he looked at me and nodded, streamlining back under, I went to do the same, but caught a glimpse of a human. His eyes were black, a deep black, like they were hiding something, he looked stressed, his shirt bunched up and he stared at the water, horrified at something. Then, I realised what was happening, I swam back under, keeping the boy in my mind. I heard a whoosh and turned around. A sharp pain rushed through my fin then my gut. I knew what to do though, we had been crammed with how to survive harpoon attacks in school, I pulled out my knife and cut the rope. I realised why my human boy looked terrified now. Darkness swarmed my vision, before I blacked out I saw a rush of green.
