2018

I sat up abruptly, sweat dripping from my forehead as I felt my chest pump in air rapidly to my lungs as I slowly recovered from my nightmare, I grabbed my clock and tried to make out what time it was but my vision was too blurry. "Come on" I whispered to myself as I began to lightly pound my temple to focus on the time, 5:28 a.m.

I rushed out of bed and had a steaming hot shower while I had time, I was running late and didn't have the time to do anything but shower and get dressed.

I threw on my shoes and pounded on Roni's bedroom door indicating that she would have to get up in less than five minutes, "Get up" I shouted through the house as I pressed my thumb into her handle and it slid open, I ran over to her bed and shook her awake, "I slept in" I whispered as she also jumped out of bed, allowing her wardrobe to sort through her outfit.

I made it across the landing before realising I hadn't activated the stairs yet, I stood before the slope that would in seconds turn to stairs with a scan of my eye, I waited until the scan was complete and placed my foot down as the holographic steps appeared.

I grabbed my helmet and my board and headed outside where it was still dark, "lock" I said as I heard the front door lock behind me.

I threw down my board and it began hovering before it could make contact with the floor, I placed my foot on the top of the board and followed with my other on the back and leaned forward, I didn't have much time to get to work but hopefully I would get there faster by using street travel. I reached the square just in time, almost being docked by one of the police drones for speeding but luckily I slid past it with a new feature on my board.

"Fold" I whispered as my board instantly shrunk down to pocket size along with my helmet which I stuffed in my pocket, I wore my white pumas and ripped black jeans with the hotels waistcoat and cap seeming as I was on cleaning again, I took the stairs to the front door which disappeared as I reached the patio. I made my way to reception and logged in via handprint and voice activation.

"Jeez did you take the fus to work?" Timothy asked as I reached the basement to collect the cleaning buckets,

"For the last time Timmy, 'Fus' is never gonna catch on, you've been trying since it became a thing, it's just called a bus" I explained but he shook me off thinking that he was better than me,

"Hey, woah, Vanessa" he called me back, holding up an old manky pair of h-vo shoes, "I'm not having another guest complain about footprints in the carpets" he ordered as I took the shoes and reluctantly put them on over my pumas.

"You live in the past" he sighed as I told my h-vo shoes to hover but they were rusty so they barely lifted me off the ground, "it was a better time" I laughed as I grabbed the buckets and headed up to the lobby's unused public bathrooms to clean them even though no one ever used them, they could just freeze their insides if they wanted.

Veronica's POV
I always let Vanessa wake me up for some reason even though it still hasn't hit her that I quit my job over a month ago, I would get up and get dressed so I wouldn't worry her but usually get back into bed afterwards cause it knew my sleep routine well but this morning I didn't feel like going back to sleep.

I trudged to the bathroom and heard her slam the front door behind her, she was so obsessed with the past it's actually ridiculous, she willingly chose to hover to work other than take the car, it would get her there faster cause I added the shortcut feature last week.

I picked up my contacts and carefully placed them in the center of my eye and blinked to activate them, within seconds a screen had appeared in front of me with the time and date in the top right corner of my vision, the LED screen illuminated my daily plan before my eyes as I stuck my toothbrush into my mouth, "Exercise" I simply said as a regime faded onto the screen, it looked hard so I swiped through them until I found a moderately easy one.
