Girl With Wings Joins Military

By Hanna O'Neal

We all heard about it when Jessy Blue grew wings in her sophomore year of high school. Now she is joining the military to serve her country. “I was looking for the next step in my journey and thought that this was the best path for me to take at this point in my life,” Blue told us regarding her enlistment.

After finishing her modeling career that she carried out through high school the 19-year-old is now estimated to be worth millions, but she doesn't act that way. She lives with her parents, in the same house she has lived in all her life.

When asked about college Blue claimed that it wasn’t for her, at least not yet. “It is important for me to serve my country, it was something that I always wanted to do.” But after she grew her wings she wondered if that was an option that was still open to her. “At first the wings were an obstacle, I couldn’t use them, but now I can fly and I believe that it will be something I can use to my advantage in my service in the military.”

Blue go farther to say that, “I have and will continue to work with my commanding officers to learn more in figure out how best to train and how we can improve my ability. They are also confident that flying will be a useful skill in combat and are excited to see what I can offer.”

When we asked her if she was worried about the military taking advantage of the opportunity by studying her and not letting her on the battlefield. But Blue didn’t seem concerned, “That is the kind of stuff you see in a movie, it's only founded in your imagination. Besides I am a well-known person, it would be difficult for the government to take advantage of me without everyone knowing.”

Many people in her community have voiced their support for Blue’s decision. Her father tells us, “I am proud that my daughter is making this choice to serve her country, and I believe she is making this choice for the right reasons.” Blue’s father also served in the military immediately after high school. Her mother enlisted but was turned away due to the minor heart attack she suffered when she was 10.

Blue’s 6th grade teach also reached out to Blue in order to show her support for the decision. “I remember her telling all her friends about joining the military, it was always a dream for her and I am so happy to see that she is pursuing it.”

Blue has never hidden her opinions, she has not hesitated to speak up on issues that she believes in, like gun control. Though some people see the military and the NRA as one and the same, Blue sees differently. “A war zone and a non-war zone are very different settings. Saying that we need to give people guns for protection is different when we are talking about a war zone and a school. In a war zone it is impossible for one government to regulate guns and other weapons, however, in a school, we can significantly if not totally eliminate guns by passing the right legislation.”

Jessy Blue starts her contract of two years of service in May. She will continue to participate in efforts to pass legislation to make our schools and other public places safer until May comes.
