Prologue
"I don't think this is going to work."
Preston laughs while shaking his head. "How do you think Natalie will feel when she shows up expecting her mom but, she isn't here!? It will work trust me."
"But, she hates me," I sigh.
"I know you got a letter Lachlan. We all got one."
I turn towards him, gripping onto the letter in my jacket pocket. "All of us?"
"You, me, Mitch, Jerome, Madi, and Lacey."
"Lacey?" I question. "What does she want from Lacey!?"
"You know what she wants from Lacey," He replies in a hushed voice like someone else was here. "Have you been talking to her?"
"Yes." The guilt flares up inside me.
Natalie's car pulls into the driveway.
"All of the letters except one were signed, Sincerely. If it wasn't you and it want me, who was it?"
I ball my fists and say what the note said through clenched teeth,
"I know the real reason why you are back in town.
You're trying to keep me from Lachlan.
