Hailey was crying softly on her bed. She did not expect that her day could get any worse.
With her parents constantly fighting and she does not have any siblings to accompany her, she felt worthless and miserable.
She does not have any friends as she do not always felt like socialising with anyone in particular.
On the night of her birthday, she came back from school knowing that her parents are screaming at each other, even if there were any special events on that day. However, the house was quiet. Not a single sound was made.
She had surprised expression on her face. However, she can't help but smile widely. In her thoughts, she kept telling herself that day her parents forget their differences and decided to made up for her birthday.
"Sweetie, can you please come to the kitchen." she heard her mother's voice from the kitchen.
"Sure, mother."
Hailey slowly walked to the kitchen with a big grin on her face. She thought it was a surprise. Hailey reached the kitchen entrance with her parents sitting on the dining table, directly in front of each other.
They did not look like they are angry at each other but they did not look like they enjoy each other's company. They turn slowly directly to Hailey almost at the same time.
"Hailey, can please sit down here?" putting her hand out towards the chair.
She was worried but still sat on the chair.
After Hailey sat down. Her mother spoke up with a serious look on her face, "We have something important to tell you."
Hailey's father was just waiting impatiently and had a disapproval look on his face.
Hailey nodded. However, she regretted after that.
She was right. It was a surprise to her but not the birthday surprise you thought but she just felt shocked and disbelief when those words come out from her mother's mouth. "Your father and I are getting a divorce."
Hailey did not know what to say. She just stood there without her realising, tears slowly falls from her eyes to her cheeks. She had a lot emotions at that point.
She was mad.
She was sad.
She felt frustrated.
She....
At that point she snaped, "I hate both of you. You never think of how I feel. You never do. And never will. I am just a mistake to be in this world."
She ran upstairs to her room and slam her door loudly. Not caring her parents calling out her name from the kitchen.
She was just crying behind her room door. Not knowing what to do. Not knowing where to go. She just hated being at home.
She ran to her bed screaming through her pillows.
"It is just useless for me to be here, I hate being here." she said softly in between breaths of her sobbing.
She remember those times when both her mother and father will put her to bed and tell stories of tales she did not really remember the name.
But it is a place where everything was so much fun and no rules. And no one grows up. She wishes it could be like that for her family where they not only not grow up but also not grow apart.
"If only there is such place, I will gladly stay. Away from this nightmare." she whispered to herself and look directly at the window.
She heard something weird after looking at the window. She heard a tapping coming from the glass of the window.
