Guess who's back! Surprising, I know. Sorry if this is awful, not much is going to happen except some serious talks between our favourite two politicians. Enjoy whatever angst ends up here.

Madison's p.o.v

We drove home in silence.

Once Franklin had left, Washington had sent us straight home, threatening us with an ass-kicking if either of us, especially Thomas (he's notorious for coming in when he's not supposed to) showed our faces for at least a week. I let Thomas calm down and finish his tea, then bustled him in the car and proceeded to get stuck in the lunch-rush traffic.

"Thomas, we're going to have to talk about this," I said, squinting out of the windshield trying to work out the length of the line in front of us. Thomas didn't reply, staring out of his window. I sighed heavily, trying again. "Thomas. You can't just ignore this."

"What is there to ignore?" Thomas murmured, not even turning to look at me.

"Tom. C'mon. Don't be a stubborn jackass."

"I'm not being a jackass."

"To hell you aren't!" I yelled a lot louder than I meant to. Thomas turned to look at me, looking surprised and just a little bit scared. "Sorry. You know I hate it when you ignore your own health problems, whether it be your leg or something as mundane as a cold."

"I don't ignore it," Thomas replied, his voice very faint and his eyes glued to the floor. Then he said something I couldn't quite make out.

"Tom, you're gonna have to speak up, I can't hear you if you're speaking to the floor."

He looked up at me.

"I'm scared that something will happen to me and our baby girl will have to grow up without one of her dads, or, even worse, something will happen to her," Thomas sniffed. His voice was hollow and quiet, and his eyes flickered around the car as if looking for some sort of escape route.

"Oh, baby..." I whispered, moving one of my hands from the steering wheel and taking his in it. "It was only Braxton Hicks. It's very common."

"I know," he replied. "I was just so terrified when I thought something had happened to her."

He paused, as if something had struck him suddenly. "Is this what it's going to be like when we have her? Constantly worrying something will happen to her!?"

His breathing was getting heavy and laboured, his soft brown eyes filling with tears. Resigning myself to the fact that we were going to be here a while, I turned fully in my seat. forcing him to look at me.

"Hey, hey, hey," I said softly. "Yeah, it'll be a little daunting at first, but you'll forget all about it when you meet and embarrass our little boy or girl's partner, won't you?"

He giggled, sniffling and nodding.

"Nice how you covered all your bases there," he said. I laughed a little, gazing into his eyes. I hadn't even realised the traffic had begun moving again until the pissed-off Porsche behind us beeped angrily. I slammed the gas pedal and we shot down the road.

"Wanna start painting the nursery later?" Thomas asked as I hurriedly looked both ways before speeding over a crossing.

"We could, or we could sit and watch Harry Potter with ice cream," I countered.

"You know me so well."

I giggled as we pulled up outside the flat. I shut the car off, going to get out before turning to Thomas.

"D'you need any help?" I asked, starting to fret. He shook his head, his hand on the door handle. I nodded, waiting for him before I went into the apartment. Catching a few people staring at his cane, his slightly lopsided gait and his oversized clothes, I shot them glares that could've killed the Devil.

"I love you so much," he told me as we tumbled into the apartment. I threw my coat on the side, moving into the kitchen to make some hot chocolate. Not that crappy instant. Proper hot chocolate made with cream and melted chocolate. Thomas, from his seat at the table, saw me dragging my small stool out from under the fridge and his face lit up. "You're making hot chocolate!? You just got about ten times more sexy!"

"Love you too, babe," I replied, chuckling. "I was gonna ask you if you wanted some, but I think you sorta just answered that."

Before I realised what was happening, Thomas was behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing the top of my head. This had worked better before the whole baby thing, but it was still adorable. I held his hands close to me, enjoying the heat of his body next to mine.

"Sweetie, I love you, but I can't make you cocoa if you're hanging off me like a limpet," I laughed, pushing him gently away. Giggling, he swatted at me playfully with a tea towel.

I couldn't wait until I was making hot chocolate for my daughter in that kitchen.
