"I hope StarClan will hear and approve my choice of having Goldenfur WindClan's new deputy." Waspstar called. Goldenfur respectively bowed his head and joined Waspstar.

The battle with SkyClan had happened three days ago and WindClan had lost so many warriors. They had lost Songspeckle, Mudtail, Frogpool, and Timberfur all to unnecessary battle. Ripplepaw had been reassigned to Petalstorm for a mentor. Ripplepaw has been totally different cat ever since. She was no longer the sad shell of herself, but a more confident young she cat.

"Goldenfur! Goldenfur!" Everyone in the clan yowled in approval except for Tansybreeze, who sat quietly glaring at Goldenfur. Eveningfoot was her sister, so she probably had a right to be a little angry, but Goldenfur would make a much better deputy. Turtlewing and Bumblefrost sat near Applepaw. Turtlewing yowled triumphantly for his father, while Bumblefrost just sat quietly. He had acquired two distinct scars across his right eye. It was a sort of symbol to remind him of what he lost. RiverClan has been struggling to let go of their loss of their medicine cat and one of their youngest warriors, Eelshine, but Bumblefrost took it harder.

Applepaw noticed Shellwhisker padding towards him. "Come, Applepaw. We're going to go over your warrior assessment with Ripplepaw and Petalstorm."

Already? It just felt like yesterday when I became an apprentice! Applepaw thought. Eh.. it will be nice to be on my own as a warrior.

Ripplepaw padded up to Applepaw from talking to Beepelt, with Petalstorm at her side.

"Hey, Applepaw!" Ripplepaw purred. Her eyes were glazed with happiness.

"You're in a good mood." Applepaw teased.

"We're super close to becoming warriors! Why wouldn't I be in a good mood?" Ripplepaw purred.

Petalstorm signaled for the apprentices to follow and they padded into the field.

****

"Ha! I totally crushed you!" Ripplepaw boasted.

Applepaw rolled his eyes. "You may have beat me at fighting, but I can catch more prey in a day than you can in a moon!" He teased.

"To be that young and playful, huh Shellwhisker?" Petalstorm purred.

"Yeah.." She meowed.

"So I've noticed you hanging around Wolfleg.." Petalstorm mewed.

Applepaw rolled his eyes. She cats..

Shellwhisker went quiet. "He's.. been helping me with going through Timberfur's death." She blushed.

Ripplepaw looked at Applepaw. "Race ya!" Ripplepaw galloped ahead of Applepaw. He raced after her, leaving the two she cats, laughing and drumming his paws on the brown grass. They reached the entrance of camp and everything was oddly silent.

"What's going on?" Ripplepaw whispered.

Ashpaw ran up to them. "It's Leafstorm..! She's..."

Before Ashpaw could finish, Applepaw ran to the medicine den. His mother lay there, green slime pouring from her nose. Coalfur say not too far from Leafstorm.

"Leafstorm..?" Applepaw choked, he could barely even look at his mother. "What.. what happened?"

Leafstorm sighed. "My wounds are coming to get me, Applepaw." Leafstorm looked at Coalfur. "I'm so sorry.."

Applepaw was confused. "What's going on?! Why are you saying sorry to him?!"

"Applepaw.. I think it's best if you found out before I joined StarClan."
