We live in a world where we constantly complain about what goes wrong in our day to day lives, but we don't stop to consider how the environment is faring with our nonstop developments? Or even perhaps how the animals without the ability to express themselves feel?
This is our home as much as it is theirs, why do we like the environment that we are in to be tidy at the expense of the animal's welfare?
They are living creatures like you and me; Are we different or more 'superior' because we can make decisions?
So many people go scuba diving to admire the fish, but more and more fish are finding the water inhabitable because we are the same people that buy everything packaged in the animal's worst nightmare... PLASTIC!
Unfortunately, in some time to come, we won't even have any marine life unless we drastically cut down on our plastic use or find a way to recycle this stubborn item that doesn't seem to leave us alone.
People criticize other people who identify as Zero Waste because they cut back on their plastic use and minimize it at all costs. At least they are saving the world by rejecting that plastic straw at a restaurant or even the plastic bags at the grocery store.
Why do we continue to use such a harmful substance even though we are aware that its a carcinogen? Why do we accept to have our food wrapped in something that kills thousands every year? Our day to day interactions involve some form of plastic and yet we wonder why so many people lose loved ones due to cancer.
In Kenya, we took the initiative of banning plastic bags. If our country can take a stand, so can yours!
Be the change that you want to see in the world.
