Spying and Playing

I couldn’t believe Talise wouldn’t even listen to my plan.  She always seemed to think her plans were so much better. I just got up and stormed out of the van.  I needed to just get away from there. I knew my plan would work and was planning on just proving her wrong.  I didn’t need her to make my plan work. I headed up the mountain to think and perfect my plan. I would need to first spy on the WZT.  That way I’d be able to find her victim. But not a victim as Talise seemed to think of it. I wasn’t planning on hurting anyone. Just befriending someone and using that to my advantage.  Nothing wrong with that. I’d learn what I needed to and the other person would have a loyal friend. Until I didn’t need them of course, then I was planning on just ghosting them. That’s the easiest way to end a friendship.  It would hurt at first, but not as much as a slower process of icing them out. They’d move on, or at least that’s what I always told myself.

It was getting late already, but I wasn’t planning on going back to Adrian and Talise until my plan had worked.  I decided that I would hitchhike to the city and find a place to stay there. I walked to the highway and it didn’t take long for a young man to stop and offer me a ride into the city.  I knew this was kinda dangerous since I didn’t know him at all, but it didn’t seem like I had much of a choice. I stayed quiet throughout the trip, but he was very talkative and started telling me all about his life.  He told me he was a Sagittarius and it was in his nature to talk a lot to new people. I wasn’t really listening until he told me that he worked for the Habitat for Humanity. I knew it was the EZT because the EZT seem to always work in companies that help others.  The EZT and WZT aren’t visible to the regular people since people with powers would be seen as dangerous, so they work behind the scenes. The EZT is more collectivistic and work in natural disaster relief since that way they’d be able to find the people who recently find out that they have powers.  On the other hand, the WZT are more individualistic and tend to work in companies where design and creativity are valued since that way they’d be able to control government and produce technology that would help them take out members of the EZT.

It seemed like I wouldn’t even need to spy on the WZT to find someone who worked there, but would just need to befriend this guy.  So I broke my silence and said, “That’s interesting. I’ve always liked the work that Habitat for Humanity does.” He smiled at me and said, “I’ve finally broken your silence.  Didn’t think that was possible. So since you’re actually talking now. D’you mind telling me what your name is? My name is Edward Barthol.” I quickly thought up a name on the spot since I was sure that he’d have had orders to capture me if he knew I was Hestia Chtypisan.  So I said, “I’m Eleanor Rob.” “It’s nice to meet you Eleanor. I’ll just call you Ellie though,” he replied. It wasn’t much longer before we got to the city and he dropped me off in downtown, but before I could get out of his car, he said, “The least you could do after I so kindly drove you, is give me your number.”  This worked out even better than I expected so I didn’t hesitate to give him my number. Now I just had to figure out a disguise and make sure he didn’t figure out who I actually was.

I got a cheap hotel room and started to think of what I could do as a disguise since he had already seen what I looked like.  I couldn’t really change my eye color since he would obviously notice, but it had been dark, so I thought I’d probably be able to get away with just wearing a hijab.  That would change my look enough that I’d probably not be recognized right away and I’d always be able to explain my change as a result of me becoming a more devout muslim.  I just had to figure out how to actually put on a hijab. The only thing I knew about it was that it was a headscarf that was worn by muslim women. I quickly researched it online and was slightly disappointed to see that I would need to buy a specific type of cloth and pins to keep it in place.  This seemed more difficult than I had originally imagined, but it was worth it if it meant that I’d be able to go back to my old life and my girlfriend. I had only been able to give her a short explanation for my sudden departure, so I hoped that she was still waiting for me to return.

The next morning I was planning to go to a islamic clothing store in the city in the hopes that they’d be able to help me, but first I would actually need to read the Quran.  I had never even looked at it and would definitely fall through if I didn’t even know what the religion was about. I headed to the nearest library to learn what I could about Muslim and the Quran.  After stuffing my brain with as much as I thought it would be able to hold in one time, I headed home to continue thinking about how to approach this situation and learn as much as I could about the EZT, WZT, and the war they seemed to be in.  After a restless sleep, I headed to the islamic clothing store and the women there were beyond helpful. They helped me find a few perfect headscarves and even went so far as to teach me how to put them on. Now I was ready to live my new life and hopefully learn enough in the meantime.  I just wanted to get through this situation so I could go back to my peaceful life.
