Chapter 2
I couldn't move. my body was frozen. I tried to move my feet, all attempts of moving failed. The voice of Mellow Esteray jolted me back to reality,
"Will Rue Marvack please come to the stage! We do have a reaping to do here, i'm on a tight schedule you know!" She says impatiently. I begin to take small,shaky steps that begin to develop into strides, when I finally reach the stage Mellow gives me a disapproving look but it's quickly replaced with a sympathetic look when she realises it's my first reaping.
She quickly takes the reaping back on track when she says " Now it's time for the boys!" she half skips, half runs to the reaping ball and places her hand deep into the reaping ball and quickly takes out a paper slip.
"Thresh Calvone!" Almost instantly, the boy strides up to the stage. He is the districts hard worker, The strongest in the district, and that alone is quite a feat, but the saddest thing about him is that he's an orphan, brought up by his grandmother along with his sister keyla. Many a time he was invited to be a popular socialite at school but he always turned them down, He had only ever spoken to me once...
*RUE'S FLASHBACK*
I was walking down the school corridor, same as always head bent down,shoulders hunched, staring at the ground. Before I knew it Mandy sentra (The popular girl) was shoving me hard,
" Thought you wouldn't bring a present in today Rue, because you know it's my birthday, and it's a ritual to praise me on this one day isn't it?" She sneered begining to advance on me.
" Leave her alone Mandy. Not every one needs to worship you." Said Thresh quietly, but also menacingly. Mandy ran away quickly after that statement and Thresh turned to me and held out a hand " I know you, I live next door so i'm already goingthat way, I'll walk you home." I took his hand and he helped me stand up, we then walked home in a peaceful silence.
*EXIT FLASHBACK*
I feel sad after that thought, if district eleven wins then one of us will be leaving that arena and I don't think it will be me.
